It depends on the new CB, Morrsion isn't really mobile enough for the left or right of a back three, Cala would suit that better with Morrison in the middle. Ralls and Dikgacoi are decent in a midfield and would provide support to allow Dæhli to better influence the game.

But I'd question Pilkington and Noone's defensive ability.

Guerra could be a better option than Macheda to work with Jones.

Spot on or don't buy another centre back and spend the money on a midfield leader

Agree if we dont get another centre back in connelly and cala either side of morrisson would do for me
Dielhi free in the middle could also work with ralls and diko central
But my whole point is noone and pilkington should not be needed defensively if we defend further up
The best form of defence is to attack :bluescarf:
Sorry forgot your point about guerra he has worked really well so far with macheda so should work well with jones

Re: ' Could this team set up work? '

Kettering I quite like your team there especially getting jones guerra and machede in the same team think john rather than fabio as john is a converted winger
Playing around with this type of formation on paper ( at least) looks really exciting
Like to see it tried out in the next cup game :bluescarf: :ole:

This fascination with wing backs & 3 at the back is just like the tiki taka from Barce phase. Be gone as quick as it came me thinks

Imo just think we have the players for that system :bluescarf:

Ben Turner instead of a new CB and Whitts for Ralls

it seems to be in fashion at the moment that clubs go for a 3 man defence with wide men, but this is cardiff city, not holland, or ajax of the mid 90's. these fads come and go.

its got to be a 4 man defence. we can't afford to wait for new systems to deliver results. if he intended on using it, he should have spent pre season practicing it.

Drop Pilkington for Daehli and it could work. Id probably go with Guerra instead of Macheda too. Gives you something different.

3 at the back obviously allows you to flood the midfield whilst still allowing 2 forwards up top.
However, it's a difficult system for players to play & adapt as I doubt any of them have played that way previously. You also need to train, practise & ideally have a few friendly's. It shows how difficult it is as Man Utd have shown as they have superior players & had their pre season to adapt & they still haven't got it.
I think if Ole changed now we could be in a bit more trouble.

Don't think Ole wants a ball playing centre half anyway. Hoof.

I'm sure there's thousands of different permutations but there's a good chance that Ole will pick that team by end of season

Agreed Macheda has to start. While Jones offers a lot in defence at set pieces and can provide flick-ons/headers providing another option upfront - did anyone else notice how after getting a corner 3 mins into injury time at the end he just walked extremely slowly back to the near post? If he was as hungry as he should be, shouldn't one of our biggest threats from set pieces be racing into position to get himself ready for a final roll of the dice? Macheda and Guerra up front would be my option if we continue to play with a front two. Macheda looked hungry and put himself into good positions after he came on.

Whitts is clearly not able to assert himself in a 4-man midfield. It may be good to either start with Ralls/Adeyemi or Dikgacoi/Adeyemi in a 4-man midfield with Adeyemi in a box-to-box role or go to a five-man midfield with runners breaking from midfield when we attack to support the forward.

Yesterday we were able to keep the ball at the back but as soon as we got into the final third, we weren't able to find the important final passes. Not sure who to blame but a hungrier and more mobile front two would help in my view.

Can't blame the strikers the service to them is poor :bluescarf: :ole:
In the third minute of four at one one and us having a corner I would hope we would not be in too much of a hurry to take it :bluescarf: :ole:

Steve, I hope you are not being critical of the way Ole has shaped his midfield or the players he has brought in :o

The problem is who would you play on the wings though? Brayford and Fabio? This would mean you lose out on players like noone. You could play noone in the WB position but how long would he take to adapt.
Also think someone like Daehli wouldnt work in this set up unless hes playing just off the striker which would probably have to be Jones or Guerra

Think you will find no criticism there carl it was a question was it not :bluescarf:

"service to the them (the strikers) was poor"

troobloo being critical of an OGS team, despite telling people not to stop criticising him... :laughing6: :laughing6:

Ffs thats not criticising ole
Or was the service to the strikers good
If there was any hint of criticism it would be of the players who were not supplying the strikers with good service/chances :bluescarf:
Once again seeing something thats not there barry :bluescarf: :ole:
