If you dare say such a thing as "Whittingham doesn't tackle" ... you'll get those defending him who'll say that's not his job!
a weak link for sure.

I thought Daehli was excellent, need to play 5 in midfield.

Dead ball specialist lately. That's all he is

Whitts has been a loyal servant to CCFC for a millenia.
His dead ball deliveries are of the highest level at times and he is extremely consistent in this aspect of his game. Good enough for any team in this league and most in the league above...
Yet, I understand why you are posting this. My main issue with Whitts is he isn't really comfortable on the ball. The football is like a hot potato to him and he always looks to offload as soon as he receives the ball. He never looks to carry the ball or beat players. His off the ball movement is often flat and lacking energy as well. He also lacks urgency and direct balls aside, I would say hinders a team that wants to play possession football at a high tempo.
Because of his strengths he would make an excellent plan B player coming on from the bench. He is an exceptionally gifted footballer, but he will always have the same chinks in the armour. I would like to see how well we could play without him starting in the Championship.
Joe Ralls pushing to start now...

You pretty much nailed it.

We don't know how he's being told to play, ole might be saying when you get the ball look for a quick offload, rather than look for a good pass
Sat Aug 30, 2014 4:45 pm
I'd never play him in a 4 man midfield, simples...

Whitts should Av gone years ago, annoys me every time he plays.
Sat Aug 30, 2014 5:52 pm
we will not progress with Whitts in the starting line-up we need someone who will stamp his authority on a game,as someone already mentioned may be he would be better as an impact player 5 mins from the end if we're 5-0 up!

Its time to move on. He has to make way. We should not be living in the past. This is the here and now and he is a luxury we simply cannot afford!

When will people realise Football isn't about fancy football and looking good on the ball!
Theirs alot more to it.
Fabio Looks good on the ball and makes good plays but he makes awful mistakes and costs us points.
Whittingham has the ball at his feet more than any other player his set pieces are of top calibre and his shooting is quality.
It would be like dropping Beckham at his peak
Sat Aug 30, 2014 9:54 pm
Whitts had more touches than anyone else with one of the best pass accuracy rates!
I'd be looking at LeFondre, Pilkington, Dik and Daehli before looking at Mr Whittingham, the first two were shocking!

Oh whilst I'm on it, Pilkington is worse than Kim, Dik is worse than Cowie. LeFondre is worse than Maynard who is worse than Gestede. We are weaker without those players.

And you could replace Gestede with Mason if you want, signings have not strengthened the squad?

Whitts did quite alright today, to be honest. More involved than normally, and good with his passes. I was never his biggest fan, but I think he“ll be an important player for us this season. No reason to poining a finger at him today.

I just don't see how he fits into our system, he doesn't have a role in a 4 man midfield anymore.

Loses the ball too much and slows down the attack - Ralls is the way forward - literally

Whitts played pretty well today. Tidy in possession, didn't give the ball away and his pass up to KJ eventually led to the goal.
If you want scapegoats try Dikgacoi particularly and pretty much everyone else in the first half. Whitts was one of the few who did his job.

Is this the same whittingham who played the initial pin point ball for Kenwyne to knock down to daehli to play through to Kenwyne? The same one who scored a 30 yard screamer a few weeks ago? Or the one who had a say in more than half of our goals last season?... I do agree that he struggles in 4 man midfield though, I'd love to see adeyemi and dik/ralls holding and whitts in the whole

Personally I'd drop whitts he is a city legend he's a class set piece taker has a good game 1 in 3/4.
He goes missing a lot in games, he doesn't always seem to get stuck in. We need a new creative midfielder who was whitts 3 years ago and I believe we will have the missing piece to the jigsaw.

Whittingham is a great team player and obviously coaches and players get along great with him, but unfortunately he's just not creative or very good at controlling possession. If we want a dominant midfield, which we should have at this level, Whitts isn't the answer.

Best midfielder by country mile, pure nonsense and idiocy in this thread.

I went to Fulham and how anyone can claim Daehli had a good game and Whitts didn't is beyond me.
Whitts is always the scapegoat. Daehli in the 2nd half put 4 simple balls in a row to Brayford and others either out of play or behind the by-line down the right. The rest of the time he was running around not influencing the game apart from a simple 5 yard ball to Jones following a good early ball from Whitts up to Jones.
Whitts, on the other hand, was always the "out" ball making himself available and taking the responsibility rather than hiding. I haven't seen the stats but I'd wager he was right up there in terms of number of touches and accuracy.
Overall I'd suggest that we're doing OK with more to come but let's not start picking on certain players just because their face doesn't fit.

He pisses the percentage and most touches stats, won a few tackles and most importantly covered Daehli and Fabio when they went gallivanting up field, lost the ball on one too many flicks and tricks.
Too many on here just don't get football. He always makes himself available, all his passes have sympathy for the recipient. We now have had a succession of managers who see him everyday in training and games to know what they got. Malky believed in hard work and graft more than fancy prima donnas and then built the promotion team around him. When he was totally burnt out through the responsibility and his athletic limitations the results dipped. The doubters point to the last quarter of the promotion season as proof we could live without him, but always fail to show our results when he is not in the team.
If he could do the stuff he gets criticised for on here he simply wouldn't be playing for Cardiff City. My fear is Ole wanting his ball retention and passing style over plays him as all the others have done, as it still looks like we have a team incapable of retaining the ball.........

When no fucker wants to move infront of you, it does get a tad hard to play more adventurous and creative passes. All over the pitch we look far too stale and static going forward. Ole seems adamant on playing two in the middle but Id like to see us line up with 3 in the middle and have Noone and Pilkington providing us with genuine width. Maybe Adeyemi & Dikgacoi bossing with Whitts infront or Adeyemi & Whitts with Daehli playing in the hole.
At the moment we just look to predictable and have no fluidity to our passing and movement what so ever. Got plenty of time to think and work on it in the international break.
