Foxes check out Cardiff defender

Wednesday 27th August 2014

Leicester City are tracking Cardiff City right-back Declan John and saw the teenager impress against Port Vale last night.
John created Cardiff's second goal against the League One club with a surging run and cross for Federico Macheda and was generally impressive - as he was on his only other start of the season for the Bluebirds against Coventry in the previous round of the Capital One Cup.
The 19-year-old broke into the Cardiff City team last season and earned two caps for Wales, but has been left out of Chris Coleman's latest squad for the clash with Andorra.
Manchester United have also been keeping an eye on John, who is under contract until 2018, and saw his impressive display against Coventry earlier in August.

Hands off - will be worth millions in a few years

The fact that premier league teams want him but he can't even get into the wales squad speaks volumes about the type of manager Coleman is . We are short of pace on the flanks and one of the quickest and best wide players we have got is ignored .

OGS needs to give him more games.

Honestly don't know why we don't play him on the wing? Not the biggest fan of his defending but he can beat a man, got good pace and got a good cross!

With the lack of width we have, why not?

id play him wide midfield ,declans getting better and better ,especially now hes added a bit more confidence to his game.

In a few years? They could buy him now for a fee in the area of 25 million pounds. Seems to be the going rate for decent, British full back prospects nowadays.. ;)

What about the type of manager we have...can't get in our first team

They can't even get the fact he's a left back right so I'd call this report bollocks tbh.

I was under the impression that Declan played most of his youth football on the wing - and it is his natural position.

Leicester City and Manchester United chase Wales international

Leicester City and Manchester United are tracking Cardiff City youngster Declan John, according to Sport In A Storm.

The 19-year old broke into the Cardiff City first team last term and following a string of impressive performances has attracted the attention of Premier League outfits Leicester City and Manchester United.

The right-back currently has two intentional caps to his name but has been left out of Chris Coleman’s latest squad for the clash with Andorra.

It is unknown whether the interest will result in a formal bid for the player, however should John continue his recent run of form a move may occur in the not so distant future.

If you look back at his games in the Premier League he had made some defensive mistakes. Liverpool home and Swansea away comes to mind straight away. I definitely agree he would be a lot more comfortable on the left wing. He's so quick and can tell he likes to go forward.. Terrific run and shot on target against Coventry most recently too! :ayatollah:

Plenty of potential but not much more than that at the moment.

Better than Matthews and Gunter and younger, thank God we are not the selling club we were then. You can say what you like but it's thanks to Tan we can now keep our top young players :ayatollah:

vastly underrated in my view, though its good to see people on this thread see his quality.

i wouldn't sell him, and i don't see why we bought fabio. he's out of our academy and every bit as good as fabio, i want to see the lad get more games and stay here as he'll improve and appreciate in value :bluescarf:

He's a good player but nowhere near the player Shaw is.

Dec is the one reason I wouldn't be bothered if someone came in for Fabio. John is easily good enough for the championship and will only benefit from first team football. Would also be beneficial for the Wales squad as he will be better than both Taylor and Davies in a few years.

It´s a long season and both are needed. Cannot possible have a squad containing only one LB.

He looks rather nervous as a fullback, wants to push forward but feels too scared that he will leave a gap behind him if he loses the ball. Could make an excellent winger, great acceleration Tuesday and a beautiful cross, nice to see full backs play for us that can actually cross this season.

I know that Declan impressed Man United staff at Old Trafford last year - he was probably our stand out player in that game.
