Sean Morrison : "We've got a second string side here which could go on to win the league."

In his short time in South Wales, Sean Morrison has suffered the agony of late defeat, enjoyed an epic win against Wigan and watched on as off-field events resemble a soap opera. Welcome to Cardiff City.

Cardiff City new boy Sean Morrison insists he and his teammates have not been distracted as controversy has raged off the pitch at the club.

As the text message row surrounding former manager Malky Mackay continues, on the pitch, current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw his side slump to their first defeat of the Championship campaign when they lost out 1-0 at Wolves.

But 23-year-old Morrison, who arrived last week from Reading, said he and his fellow Bluebird players had not been affected at all as Cardiff hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

"What happens off the pitch about people who are not at the club any more is not much to do with us," said Morrison.

"We've just got to try to control what goes on on the pitch. We'll let the hierarchy at the club deal with that and we just do what we need to do on the training pitch and then take that into the games. The other stuff will resolve itself."

It was a disappointing afternoon in the Midlands for Morrison and his teammates as they looked on the verge of earning a good point against a Wolves side which has had a good start to the campaign after coming up from League One.

But all the Bluebirds good work was undone when skipper Mark Hudson sliced the ball into his own net in added time to hand the hosts all three points.

Morrison, who was making his second start for his new club, said his centre-half partner would soon get over the error, but admitted that to lose out late on had been a bitter pill to swallow.

"It is hard to take late in the game like that, but we need to bounce back from it," said Plymouth-born Morrison.

"You do feel for Mark. I've been in that position before and it's not nice, but he's an experienced player, he'll be able to shrug it off and he'll be fine. He's captain for a reason, he's an experienced pro. I'm sure it's not the first mistake he's ever made. It will soon be forgotten, we've got a great bunch of lads here.

"We could have nicked all three points, but I felt a draw would have been a fair result, we should have got a point, but we didn't get it. We just need to take the positives and move on."

The game was notable for Solskjaer once again changing his side despite his men having won in their previous encounter at home to Wigan. Morrison said his manager had so many good options at his disposal it was no surprise he was keen to use as many players as he could.

"Having such a good squad with so many good players the gaffer has the option to move players about," said Morrison.

"We've got a second string side here which could go on to win the league.

"It's a great squad. In the end the gaffer is the gaffer and if he wants to change things around it's up to him.

"It's a squad of very good players too. There's players in every position who could come out and play and change the game. The manager has got a lot at his disposal."

On the personal front Morrison, who began his career at Swindon and has had loan spells at Southend and Huddersfield as well as playing for Reading, said he was settling in well at Cardiff and insisted the move to South Wales just felt the right one at this stage of his career.

He added: "I'm loving it at Cardiff right now. It's a transition for me. I'm settling in very quickly. Hopefully this week I'll be out of the hotel and into a flat. Once I'm settled in an apartment and I get to know the area better and get to know the boys better I'm sure I'm going to be fine.

"Cardiff is a massive, massive club. The fan-base here is huge. It's an attractive club to be at. A fabulous squad, a young hungry manager, I just felt it might be the place for me."

If that is the case why didn't we play more positively last Saturday and win? Let's not get too cocky. We have some tough matches coming up and I include Fulham in that. Then it's Norwich and they looked really good and that is without Jerome.

So we're a massive club now!

When did that happen?

If we carry on playing the way we did against Wolves our first team won't even make the top 6.

No Allan, it's good to be positive, but I believe these kind of comments put more pressure in Ole and the squad.

It has made me chuckle, because I thought it was daft to say.
