Cornelius was the subject of a visit by Magpies chief scout Graham Carr last week, it is claimed
Striker Andreas Cornelius who failed to make the grade with Cardiff City
Cardiff City flop Andreas Cornelius may yet make a sensational return to British football with Newcastle United, according to reports.
The big Dane was the Bluebirds' record signing at the time of his capture from FC Copenhagen last summer for what was a reported £8m fee by then-manager Malky Mackay.
But, while fans had hoped the unheard of 21-year-old could lead the line in the Premier League, injury and non-selection meant he barely featured.
Vincent Tan slams Malky Mackay
When he did play, he made little impact - failing to score in the eight matches in which he took the field for the Bluebirds.
In January, he was sold back to Copenhagen for an undisclosed fee, with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan later hitting out at the deal that brought Cornelius to South Wales.
Tan revealed in an interview with WalesOnline in May that the true cost of Cornelius's transfer was much higher than had been reported, adding his wages were £45,000-per-week.
And according to the Sunday People, that form saw Newcastle's chief scout Graham Carr visit Denmark last week to check on Cornelius's progress.
Whether the Toon will follow up their interest remains to be seen, having already bolstered their striking ranks with the acquisitions of Emmanuel Riviere and Facundo Ferreyra already this summer.

I wonder if they'll put a bid of £8 million for him and offer £45,000 a week wages.

As we sold him back so cheap let's hope we had a 50% sell on clause.

Pretty sure they don't pay many, if any, over £30k so doubt Cornelius would get much off them at all.

he will be better than Jones within the next 2-3 years.
I actually think a season in the championship would of done him some good, he could of developed massively from having a full season

Jones was top notch when he was in his early 20s, he had huge potential. Cornelius isn't on that level.

I wonder what Tan and many of his supporters would say if he was a hit at Newcastle..?

There's a massive misconception of Andreas Cornelius. The lad was unfortuanete to get injured not once but twice when he signed for Cardiff during pre season. It was always going to be difficult for him to make a recovery from those two injury's within that season imo.

He was still the wrong player for us and we still massively over paid.
