Cardiff City: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defends Kenwyne Jones role

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended his decision to change a winning side and not start with Cardiff top-scorer Kenwyne Jones at Wolves.
Cardiff's 1-0 defeat at Wolves was their first Championship defeat of the season after back-to-back wins over Huddersfield and Wigan.
Jones, who has scored three goals this season, started on the bench at Wolves and came on for the second half.
"I made a decision together with Kenwyne," Solskjaer said.
"He's played loads of football compared to what he did in the pre-season in a short space of time.
"Kenwyne's done fantastic for and did well, but 45 minutes was all we planned for. He came on and did well second half.
"Nicky [Maynard] did a good job first half for us and opened the spaces up for Alfie [Adam Le Fondre]."
Substitute Jones almost won it for Cardiff late on, but his point-blank shot was saved by Carl Ikeme before Mark Hudson's stoppage time own goal gave Wolves all three points.

Solskjaer was disappointed with Cardiff's late defeat at Molineux and felt his side should have been awarded a penalty.
Peter Whittingham played the ball into Wolves penalty area which struck defender Richard Stearman on the hand, but referee Darren Drysdale ignored Cardiff appeals.

"[It was] nailed on. It's a shot from about 10-12 yards away from the lad, it's just inside the box and he handles it," Solskjaer added.
"The keeper makes a decent save, but it's 100% nailed on penalty.
"I felt we were in complete control in the second half.
"David [Marshall] never had a save to make all afternoon and we had a great chance with Kenwyne and we should have had a penalty.
"Of course we're disappointed not to be talking about three points because I feel we deserved it."
Cardiff, who slipped to eighth place in the Championship following the defeat, are away to Port Vale in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

However much OGH tries to defend & justify yesterdays team selection, the fact of the matter is it was wrong & clearly didn't work.

As I have written previously I thought KJ would be rested and another partnership given an opportunity for game time.

Daehli being dropped (though we found out later he was injured) for Pilkington seemed an obvious change.

But the decision to replace Brayford with Connolly was the most bizarre on first reading of the team sheet but when I thought about the selection for a few minutes I came to the conclusion that Ole expected plenty of high ball in to the box and KJ has been excellent on defending set pieces so without KJ in the team I believe that made the decision to put Connolly in.

Make a decision yourself man for God's sake.

And kenwyne, stop being a lazy b*stard - if you can't play 90 minutes you're not much use are you?

Kenwyne hasn't played a full 90 minutes yet so when is he going to be match fit?

Did Sir Alex ever asked your opinion before selecting his team Ole?

I guess not or you'd have probably started a few more games than you did.

THIS x100

It's amazing how all the football experts slag off Ole's decisions when they don't have a clue.

Is there something up with Dæhli? Before the Huddesfield game he was on the pitch on the floor seemingly hurt/upset with other players tapping him on the back to ?reassure him? He wasn't great against Huddesfield, worse against Wigan now not playing. Is it a niggle that's got worse?

Come on how can you defend this......

If people can not have an opinion on the manager who clearly MUST BE deluded with such statements then whats the point in a forum some call it slagging him off i call it what i think which is he got it wrong and when he comes out with the two things below you wonder why people have an opinion but say its slagging him off when 99% know it was a total reverse to what ole has said above :bluescarf:

So on the basis of this regarding KJ & good at defending set pieces (which i agree with), why didn't KJ start?

He must be injured. Daehli probably wishes he didn't come down in the championship. So brilliant in the PL, takes a lot of knocks and we play hoof ball now where his talents are lost. Not sure this situation benefits him. Thought he was good against Hudderfield especially as ACM.

With all respect, that´s really a big load of bs. Of course managers consult their players on their fitness.

So who deserves to win a game? The one being closest to score or the one with most possession? If the latter, just remove the goals and play five-a-side ;)
