Malkay Mackay's Crystal Palace offer withdrawn after Vincent Tan sends dossier of alleged misconduct to FA
20 August 2014

By John Cross

The Eagles were on the verge of appointing the former Cardiff boss as their new manager, but have performed a dramatic U-turn

Rift: Vincent Tan and Malky Mackay in better days
Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has taken the ultimate revenge on Malky Mackay.

Crystal Palace yesterday did a dramatic U-turn and withdrew their job offer to former Cardiff boss Mackay.

It came after Cardiff submitted a dossier to the Football Association questioning Mackay’s conduct during his reign at the Welsh club.

Mirror Sport understands the dossier also names Palace director of football Iain Moody who worked with Mackay at Cardiff.

Several top agents and lawyers are also named in the document while it is understood that Tan has refused to pay commission to agents on almost all of the deals done under Mackay’s reign.

Cardiff have questioned the level of fees, commission and role of agents in several deals during Mackay’s two years at the club, which the team won promotion to the top flight for the first time since 1962.

Cardiff are also set to pursue legal action against Palace and Moody in the “Spygate” case.

Palace were fined £10,000 by the Premier League last week after it was alleged that Moody got the Cardiff line-up before they played his former club last season in a vital relegation match.

The dossier and allegations appear to have persuaded Palace co-chairman Steve Parish to put on hold the appointment of a new boss.

Fall out: Tan sacked Mackay last December
Mackay, who has strenuously denied any wrongdoing, had been offered a three year contract and a way back into football following his sacking by Cardiff last December.

In the bitter fall-out from his sacking Mackay launched a £7.5million legal claim against the club.

But he dropped his claim and reached a settlement with Malaysian tycoon Tan, with the Scots boss making a statement apologising “without reservation” for any offence he may have caused.

Parish was expecting to appoint Mackay as Tony Pulis’s successor after last season’s manager of the year left the club just 48 hours before the big kick off in a row over the direction of the club.

Palace are now looking at other targets and may turn back to Tim Sherwood. The former Tottenham boss is the bookies’ favourite to land the vacancy.

Mirror Sport contacted the Football Association, lawyers for Cardiff and Tan’s representatives for comment and understand the Football Association have received the dossier.

The FA said last night: “We have no comment to make.”

It is understood that the FA are now likely to have to investigate the claims put forward in the documents presented by Cardiff.

Mirror Sport also understands Moody is now set to resign from his post after lengthy discussions with co-chairman Steve Parish.

This spy gate scandal is hilarious to me, it wouldn't matter if they could get info on our starting 11, we never even showed up. It's embarrassing we couldn't do anything with ole in charge so tans trying to find an excuse

Your reckon they didn't employee Malky as manager because of this.... He wasn't even employees then.

This goes a lot deeper obviously.... Mixed with Malky pathetic apology? And no job at celtic and Norwich? Some people just won't see it though.

Seems to all point to malky being up to no good when he was at Cardiff. If tan has something on him to that effect then I hope tan scuppers every move malky is lined up for and he never works in football management again.

Something is definitely wrong you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see it ,the club have malky over a barrel on something

If any of that is true, I think people need to finally start realising Malky wasn't the angel they're trying to cast him as.

I thought it was all called off because he wants his own backroom staff and the chairman wants his another reason why pullis fucked off along with no money being given and losing players he wanted :bluescarf:

Parkin admits that he never had a problem not being picked football wise but Malky made things personal with him and other players he didn't like and was out of order with them , it was on his twitter when Malky first got sacked , basically he was a tw*t to a number of players and not just about football .

Re: Tan scuppers Malkys Palace move!

I think it's obvious Malky made things personal, we're people like Brayford and Conway left out for footballing reasons?

Re: Tan scuppers Malkys Palace move!

It needs to all come out in the open. If there was wrong doing by malky and moody towards our club (which looks highly likely), then we as fans surely have the right to know IMO. Let's have it all out in the open so we can put an end to all this bollox ones and for all. Getting fed up of hearing malky and that kunt Moody's name now

So would you welcome an old employer of yours putting a stop to every other job you apply for in the future then ?

Surely if whatever happens is that bad as a responsible employer you have a duty to inform any other future employers of that? Isn't that what a reference check is....

It is actually against the law to give a bad employment reference

It's actually against the law to give a bad reference. It can be worded as 'we would not employ him again' or something similar but anything more direct is actually against the law

Tan did say this would all come out. Malky's name is in tatters, this is amazing. f**k off the Scottish messiah :ayatollah: :ole:

There is a difference between a bad reference and someone who has been naughty as you should know in your business. I have done recruitment and we dismissed someone for a 'bad' reference because they lied and had been naughty in their last employment.

You just give no reference at all, and that's just like giving a bad reference

If I recall correctly, Mackay made Parkin pay for his own League Cup final ticket. Without him we wouldn't have even made it there!

Exactly but no one has given a bad reference.
But if people kept saying outside of that he is dodgy and a bad egg would you still temp him out?

This is clearly not a case of Malky just being unlucky.

If you read the amount I was responding to rather than constantly trying to pick an argument maybe you will understand why I used the word 'reference' because the person who made the comment I responded too used the words 'work reference'..

Party, you are nothing but a troll FFS!!!! :laughing5:

Don't be so silly. It's the law to give a fair and accurate reference but it doesn't have to be a good reference. What would be the point in a reference at all if it was just going to be good ?
