2 points about tonight's game

First of all it was a great hard fought win and the players deserve a lot of credit but two things stood out for me :ayatollah:

1.
Whittingham started on the left in a 4-4-2 for the first third of the game and we created nothing and looked average .
After half hour he came inside with Maynard dropping to the left in a 4-5-1 and we looked very dangerous especially with the Pilkington out wide .Then after an hour we changed back to 4-4-2 with whitts going back to the left and we reverted back to average.

Surely ole has to look at that and realise having whitts buzzing around the midfield collecting balls from the back 4 and starting attacks is the way forward

2.
When defending corners we don't leave anybody up front , all players are back in our box even though Wigan left 3 sometimes 4 players out of the box . Every time we won the ball we had no outlet whatsoever and when we cleared Wigan were allowed free reign to do what they wanted . The same happened against Blackburn and Huddersfield .
I don't quite understand why we leave ourselves without an outlet ?

Didn't score from the many corners they had did they ???

I have heard many Managers discuss this, the opinion is that by putting every player back, the area becomes too crowded and makes it much harder for the other team to score, and you have enough men to cover the posts.

It's just a Managers matter of choice, and some will agree, some disagree, like every aspect of football...

Agree about Whits better in a free role in the middle and provides an outlet for his team mates when under pressure.

True they didn't score from any corners , but the other side of the coin is how many counter attacking opportunities do we miss out on by not having the outlet ?

Of course it is down to the manager but I'm not sure I've seen many teams pull everybody back for every corner , it happens at the end of games normally when holding out .

To be fair, we've been shit at defending set pieces the past several months so can't blame Ole for pulling everyone back to defend them.

It weren't even 4-4-2. :?

It was a 4-1-3-2, Adeyemi basically holding.
