Crystal Palace to decide between Tim Sherwood and Malky Mackay
• Club hope to settle on identity of new manager Today.
• Former Fulham manager Martin Jol emerges as alternative

Tuesday 19th August 2014

The Crystal Palace board will make a final decision on whether to appoint Tim Sherwood or Malky Mackay as the club’s new manager on Tuesday after holding more talks with both of the leading candidates.

The joint chairman Steve Parish has been leading negotiations since Tony Pulis walked out less than 36 hours before Palace’s opening game of the season against Arsenal and wants to have the new man in place by Wednesday. Parish is understood to have been impressed by both the former Tottenham manager Sherwood and Mackay – who was sacked by Cardiff last December – but there are thought to be several sticking points with each choice.

Sherwood has insisted that his appointment would also see his assistants at Spurs, Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey, join the coaching staff, although Palace are keen to retain the caretaker manager, Keith Millen, and coach Ben Garner. There are also concerns whether his list of transfer targets are within Palace’s means and whether he can work with the sporting director, Iain Moody.

That would not be an issue for Mackay, who has experience of working with Moody during spells at Watford and Cardiff. However, Parish is thought to be wary of the Scot’s lack of experience as a manager in the Premier League. Palace are also considering the candidacy of Martin Jol, who has been out of work since leaving Fulham last December. The former Spurs manager has the top-flight experience Palace seek, though he remains very much third choice at present.

Tony Pulis’ long-time assistant, Dave Kemp, left his role as planned on Monday having helped Millen prepare the team for Arsenal, while it is unclear whether the former Tottenham manager Gerry Francis will stay on in his part-time position.

Meanwhile Palace have been fined up to £25,000 in relation to the alleged leaking of information about the Cardiff team before a game between the sides last season. The Premier League board upheld a complaint from Cardiff, who alleged that team information was leaked to officials at Palace before the match.

I hope he does get it, that they survive the League, and that Cardiff trashes them next year :ole:

I want him to get the job too, so we can talk about our manager instead of Malky this Malky that.

To be honest, I'm not that bothered either way, he is just a professional manager who did his job here to the best of his abilities. I think that he did his best to turn the supporters against the owners and in his favour, which I'm a bit unhappy about. We don't know all the facts of what went on, but I think it's clear that Malky was not as 100% in the right as most thought, at the time. Your right he deserves another chance somewhere, unfortunately it's at a club which I have a particular disliking for
