Former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay is back in the frame to take the vacant manager’s position at Crystal Palace.
After Tony Pulis sensationally left Selhurst Park last Thursday, Mackay, who led the Bluebirds to the promised land of the Premier League, was immediately installed as favourite to take over.
Ex-Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood then appeared to have usurped Mackay and looked set to be appointed after impressing the club at interview.
But reports today suggest Mackay could well be close to agreeing a deal with Palace co-chairman Steve Parish.
Pulis, who was named manager of the season last year for keeping Palace in the top flight, left the club last week just two days before the start of the new campaign. He was reportedly at odds with the Palace board over the club’s transfer dealings this summer.
Keith Millen took charge of Palace for their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday but with the season underway, Parish is keen to make a quick appointment on a new boss.
And with a decision expected soon, Mackay looks set to learn his fate in the next few days.

Malky Mackay, who worked alongside Iain Moody at Cardiff, held a second round of talks with co-owner Steve Parish on Monday over the vacant manager's role.
The Scot, who has been out of work since his sacking at Cardiff in December, held initial discussions with Parish on Sunday - as did Tim Sherwood, the other leading candidate for the role.
Parish is set to make the final decision on who he wants to replace Tony Pulis in the next 48 hours.
