Cardiff City to push for strictest possible penalty after Crystal Palace are found guilty of 'Spygate'

The Eagles have been fined by the Premier League for obtaining information about Cardiff's starting lineup prior to their game in South Wales last season

Cardiff will consider pressing for the toughest possible penalty after Crystal Palace were found guilty of the Spygate scandal.

The South London club were fined an undisclosed fee by the Premier League for breaching conduct rules – which state “every club shall behave towards each other club and the League with the utmost good faith” – ahead of the April 5 clash in Wales.

The maximum fine is £25,000.

The Bluebirds hoped Palace’s 3-0 win last season would not stand after accusing their former director of football Iain Moody of tapping up players for their starting team on behalf of then Eagles boss Tony Pulis.

£25,000 is it worth it?

A points deduction should be awarded. Although too late for us it certainly will make other clubs think twice about keeping certain staff on board.

Ian, not worth it at all.

I think it was more about the principle of proving they had done something wrong than about any punishment they were going to get in the end.

interesting though......if the result did not stand, we were awarded the 3 points, and they had 3 points deducted, we would have finished a place higher and they would have finished a place lower. Aren't there financial rewards for the position you finish in the league?

the fine goes to the FA. they haven't even told us what it is.

its just a waste of time, we shouldn't have bothered taking it even this far. what do we get out of it? are we that deluded that we don't think this goes on all the time in football?

Just wondered about the timing of TP's exit from Palace just a few days before Palace found guilty....thoughts anyone?

Points would be great but the main thing is that CCFC have been vindicated in calling for an investigation. Crystal Palace's name has, quite rightly, been sullied and you can bet that they will be under close scrutiny as a result.

Had we finished within 3 points of safety then I would say to pursue this further. As it goes, it would make no difference apart from the amount of income of the respective clubs.

What is more annoying is the paltry value of the fine which is less than a week's wages for one player. It's equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

However, I agree with a previous poster and feel we need to move on for the sake of the club. We don't need the distraction of the issue rumbling on with little hope of success.

I understand why some suggest the club should let this go. £25,000 is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. However had Palace lost there game against us (or had the 3 pts removed) they would have finished below Swansea and lost £1.5m into the bargain. In hindsight I bet Palace are laughing at a £25k fine.

Ok we would have needed more than 3 points to stay up - so I guess the real losers here are Swansea - who lost that extra income from finishing one place below Palace in the premiership. (I think it is £1.5m per place??)

That's probably another reason to move on. We don't need to benefit our deadly rivals!

This is a debatable issue and we are bound to have different views on it. The main thing is to focus on this season. Success will result in another PL campaign and some of the betting suggests that Palace could be relegated. For a Cardiff fan, surely that would be poetic justice! :bluescarf:

It's not a waste of time, as Palace have been found guilty and will hopefully prevent them and other clubs doing it in the future. The club are not deluded enough to think that communication does not go on between past acquaintances in some form and at some point, but for someone to have a blatant disregard by texting someone at the club with info he has obtained deserves to be punished. It obviously does not go on all the time, as this exception proves the rule.
