' Michael Keane not coming to Cardiff '

Manchester United FC defender Michael Keane is staying put as Cardiff City set to look elsewhere for centre back.

Louis van Gaal set to keep hold of the England U-21 international, scuppering the Bluebirds' chances of securing a loan deal.

Cardiff City are setting their sights on a new defensive transfer target after Manchester United decided to keep Michael Keane at Old Trafford for the new season.

The Bluebirds were hopeful of securing a loan deal for the 21-year-old centre-half as they looked to strengthen their defence ahead of the transfer window closing on September 1.

But after United’s 2-1 opening-day Premier League defeat to Swansea City, van Gaal has opted to keep the youngster in his thoughts.

United, having parted company with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, are short of defensive numbers, and van Gaal sees Keane as a vital squad member. He was full of praise for the England U-21 international during United’s summer tour.

Despite the setback, it is thought Bluebirds’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may still be looking elsewhere, having watched potential targets in the UK and Europe over the past month.

If they were to recruit a new defender, it would Cardiff’s ninth signing of the summer after Javi Guerra, Federico Macheda, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Adam Le Fondre, Guido Burgstaller, Tom Adeyemi, Sean Morrison and Anthony Pilkington.

I don't think this is over. LVG has to bring in two centre backs otherwise Man U will have a dire season.

So if he brings them in Keane may be moved out on loan.

Turners injury means we will keep Hudson, Cala, Morrison and Connolly at the moment with Turner to come back and great options.

It's a right back for cover we need, McNaughton would be perfect as he has experience but there we are.

Connolly can quite comfortably slot in at RB though although he's probably 1st choice CB at present

If we go in the market for a RB, I'd like to see us go for a younger player with potential who won't cost us a lot in wages. Someone scouted from a lower league team could work.

Connelly is not a full back. Proving himself as an excellent CB though.
