The Society will receive a grant of £1.8 million under the Vibrant and Viable Places programme for Merthyr Tydfil funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The grant will fund the creation of a new Community Multi Functional Facility and enable refurbishment of the current clubhouse and the stands surrounding the pitch. It will also be possible to proceed with the demolition of the derelict Strikers club and improvement to the entrance road and turnstiles.

The provision this grant and the resulting development of the facilities at Penydarren Park will enable Merthyr Town FC to provide excellent sporting, educational, training, recreational and banqueting facilities for the whole community in Merthyr Tydfil for decades to come.

Much early planning and preparation has already been taken forward by the club Board in association with Merthyr Council officers. The signing of the agreement now enables the commencement of detailed design and planning.

Club members and supporters will be given a full picture of developments in coming weeks and months through meetings and other media. Announcements about these will be made as early as possible.
