I find this decision strange , why get rid of the only real back up to brayford we have In the squad ?
He was also great ack up for the centre backs .
Connolly can play right back but he is not good enough for a full season there
If brayford gets injured we may regret this decision . Our squad especially the defence has just been massively weakened IMO

Good move for all.
Connolly and Fabio can both play RB.
Sun Aug 17, 2014 3:36 pm
Leaves us with three earl right backs. Conolly can play there yes, but he doesn't suit the attacking full back system really.
Shame we didn't keep McNaughton.

Think he wants to be close to his family at this difficult time.

Could have done with keeping super kev. Maybe ole thinks jazzi can cover but what if brayford gets injured long term
Sun Aug 17, 2014 4:04 pm
I agree defence is 1 of our weak points. We need more defenders ????

Gutted i liked KTC. Worst decision Ole has made this window
Sun Aug 17, 2014 4:10 pm
I'm guessing it's more for personal reasons after his recent family loss. I think the club are acting correctly.
We have the option of a loanee

Good terrible defender in my eyes, bet he was on a fair bit in wages too
Sun Aug 17, 2014 4:27 pm
not the best 2m spent by malky I liled theo for his effort bit unfortunately thats where the talent ended its got to be for family reasons plus we got enough cover in wingback area plus I would think brayford is the type of player to play a full season not tempting fate but we got connolly to play there also can recall super kev if needed like last year so its another 15 20k off the wage bill

Cardiff City defender Kevin Theophile-Catherine joins French Ligue 1 outfit St Etienne
Sunday Aug 17, 2014
Having been left out of Cardiff City's opening two league matches, Kevin Theophile-Catherine has returned to France, to join St Etienne on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy.
Cardiff City defender Kevin Theophile-Catherine has left Cardiff City for St Etienne - according to reports in France .
French news agency RMC claim the 24-year-old has joined the Ligue One outfit and quote a source close to the player as saying: "Kevin has always loved AS Saint-Etienne. This is a family club that corresponds to him," and claim that he has already said goodbye to his team mates in South Wales.
St Etienne chief executive Roland Romeyer confirmed they had completed the deal for the player they had been chasing since the start of the winder, before his team's home match against Stade de Reims tonight.
L'Equipe report the versatile defender, who can play right back or centre back has signed an initial one-year loan deal, with an option to buy at the end of it.
The France U21 international is expected to complete his medical tonight.

We can't have players on the wages that KTC is on, sitting on the bench all season, it's not feasable. Plus, he has not shown that much talent since joining. Better off for all concerned that he goes back to familiar surroundings in France. Connolly is good enough for this division
Sun Aug 17, 2014 5:08 pm
good decision by ole we get rid off a player earning 20k+ a week who will probably sit on the bench and if we have any problems at right back we have players who can cover that position and if necessary call kevin mcnaughton back who will be fit and be able to jump straight into the team
Sun Aug 17, 2014 5:13 pm
We would have to be very, very unlucky not to be able to cover the KTC position with the dynamics of the squad in that particular area so it is a thumbs up for Ole from me.

All the best KTC.

A load of rubbish really, no doubt on a big wage. Glad he has gone just wish it was perm.
fabio would move to RB before he played. Connolly or gunnar would fit in for a game and we can move to the loan market if both Branford and fabio get injured.

i think that we have a recall option for mcnaughton aswell and he will be fit to play and should fit into the team nicely

Good luck KTC.
Hope he has a good season and we get a good fee at the end of it. Good to get the wages off the wage bill.
Don't agree with posters saying Connelly is good cover at RB. He simply is not a right back. regardless if he's played there loads before. Same goes for Gunnarson - played loads at right back. Not a right back.
I think we need to move out one more CB and bring in a new RB.
Swap Berget for Matthews anyone? I'm only half serious... Which means I'm one half totally serious.
Sun Aug 17, 2014 6:18 pm
connolly and Gunnar are not right back I agree but they could cover for a game maybe two while we jumped into the loan market and that's only in the event of injuries to Branford and Fabio. Seems silly to me to bring in a 3rd choice RB on a perm contract and most likely a decent wage.
Sun Aug 17, 2014 6:30 pm
My only worry is the lack of competition for that position. There are plenty of players competing for all other positions, and although we have players who can step in there, none have RB as their preferred position. Brayford must feel quite comfortable right now.

You make a argument point 2 blue. If need be we could suffice this way. Say if Brayford is out, Fabio can switch to RB and John comes in.
I think along the lines of what Mourinho says though and simply have two people for every position and have three GK's. Going for an expensive RB would be too indulgent especially considering that Brayford could be the stand out RB in the championship this year anyway.
Maybe we are going to move for this young Irish lad after all - Brian Lenihan?
I still feel we may have a CB too many though. I know there are a lot of Turner fans on here, but if it were down to me I would let him go as he would get the best fee and isn't much better than the rest for me. But now he's injured I guess he's staying put. Maybe I need to give him another chance seeing as how others rate him.
Sun Aug 17, 2014 6:40 pm
We have cover as said... Decs can come in and fabio switch. Also no point in spending fees for a player when we will use brayford.
Has super Kev got a recall option maybe if required?

That Jazzie Barnum Bobb looked like he could step in if he had too if we had an injury crisis .
Don't think it's too much of a loss , he offered endeavour and not much else.

Yep hit the nail on the head Gareth...' Defenders',, and KTC couldn't defend.. not good enough... and Brayford is going to be number 1 right back this season ... all the best to him but don't disappointed he's gone

Jamie Davies Why does everyone put the fault on Malky....
At the end of the day he brought players in to suite his style of play not tans nor of oli.
Everyone can say it was his fault why the players had bad contract realise but he had believe that we would stay up with a point a game which he was getting in till tan sacked him!

Vince Alm Thought he was a decent player up until is father illness. Think he will be an international for France in years to come. Still young must have been tough for him over here so young with his father's illness. I wish him good luck one of those players who always gave 100%

All about opinions but did nothing for me thought KTC awarness and positioning was poor and that he was an average right back.. IMO Kev McNaughton was far better and Brayson who MM sent out on loan better again... So TBH not a great loss free up some wages. and as i said all the best to him

One standout moment for me.
He bust a gut down the wing chasing a long ball vs Swansea, managed to get a touch that ricocheted off their player, we got a corner and then we all know what happened from that set piece!
Nice guy, his heart was there but I think he's better suited back home in France.
