Midfielder praises squad depth and quality after win

Tom’s got so much energy in midfield, while Gunnar came on and did really well too - this is a great squad."
Peter Whittingham

Peter Whittingham's 28th minute opener on Saturday put the Bluebirds on their way to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Speaking to Press and Media after the game, Peter said: “I’m pleased with it today. We were a little bit careless conceding the goal, but in the second half I thought we came out with the right attitude. Kenwyne is a fantastic focal point. Javi, when he came on, is another great option. It’s brilliant to have those guys - when you look up and see them you know they’re going to cause trouble.

“You don’t have the moves Kenwyne’s had in his career by being a poor player. We see him in training, what he can produce and now it’s happening in games. That’s three goals in two games for him. He took his second goal so well, waiting for the 'keeper to go down and lifting it over him shows the confidence he’s got in his self.”

A Man of the Match performance from new boy Tom Adeyemi impressed his partner in midfield too, Whittingham highlighting the former Birmingham man's strengths that were so effective today.

“Tom’s got so much energy," he continued. “He gets around the pitch and breaks the play up very well - he’s going to be brilliant this year. Gunnar came on and did really well too - this is a great squad.”

A slight adjustment of formation mid-way through the first half saw Ole’s team put their stamp on the game, as Whitts explained: “At the start of the game we were over-run a little bit. "They played the diamond and four against two in that respect is always going to be tough. Once we changed we started matching them up and were moving the ball around a bit better. The Gaffer’s always talking about changing the formation up to suit us. It keeps the other team guessing and as you can see from today, it worked well. “We know the squad that Wigan [City's Tuesday night opponents] have - they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. It’s a big game for us on Tuesday; it’s all about recovery now in the build up but we have a frightening array of options."

It's a shame we didn't have this squad last year in the Premier League. We have a better squad now I reckon which is crazy! Far better balance and better competition in all areas of the field.

Ole is a demon in the transfer market!!!

Tend to agree. Could maybe do a job out wide in a diamond.

Although he had an indifferent season in the Premier division on reflection I think a lot of fans forgot what he brings to the team in the championship and what a terrific player he is on his day!, any top Championship club would take him in a heartbeat .
Ok maybe the Premiership league was a tad to far for him but in the Championship he is a stand out players.
