' Playing Ratings v Huddersfield '

I always like to do this after a game (not sure why) but I have rated the players below. Please feel free to disagree and post your ratings as well. I always find it interesting how people’s views vary. Oh and no 0.5 ratings thats cheating lol.
Overview:
Thought we played well today, infact I really enjoyed the game which hasn’t happened to often recently. Huddersfield were slightly better than I expected, some good passing and movement at times but then usually followed by some terribly sloppy play. My main concern today was in central midfield where I thought Huddersfield got a lot of Joy. Although it would be hard to leave out Whitts I would like to see Adeyemi and Dikgacoi together.

Play Ratings:
Marshall 7 – flapped at a few early on but made some very good saves as usual.

Brayford 8 – Malky bought him and instantly froze him out so I had doubts, having rarely seen him for Derby. I was massively impressed in everything he did. Could turn out to be Malkys best signing.

Hudson 7 – Solid performance

Connolly 8 – Had doubts on him playing CB but has made the position his own for now, excellent performance.

Fabio 7 – Started very brightly, goes forward well and will put a foot in. Faded slightly as the game went on but did well.

Daehli 6 – A few moments of quality but not his best game.

Adeyemi 8 – Felt the midfield was far to open but thought he did very well and will be a big player for us.

Whitts 7 – great goal and good passing but again marked down as I didn’t feel the central players offered enough protection

Burgstaller 6 – Didnt impress me much, worked hard, needs to do better though.

Le Fondre 6 – Worked hard, don’t really have a lot else to say.

Jones 8 – Caused problems, won plenty in the air and got his goals, who would have thought it a few months ago.

SUBS
Gunnarrson 7 – Thought he came on at the right time and made an impact. For me that is his role for us now, I just don’t think he offers enough starting.
Guerra 7 – Lively and always trying to get involved
Eikrem 6 – Came on to settle things down a bit and was solid.

Agree with that.

Would drop Burgstaller for Pilkington on Tuesday, otherwise the same team. Maybe Morrison in for Hudson if he can't do two games in a week, and maybe bring Guerra in for Le Fondre.

Amazing how opinions differ. Fondre worked his plums off!! Movement off the ball was superb! At least a 7
Connolly!!!! OMG!!! Completely average!! I counted on 3 occasions he should av cut the initial ball out! Tidy player, unfortunately, not got enough!! :bluescarf:

I did mention Le Fondre work rate, I certainly wouldn't say he played badly but I felt he could have used the ball better at times and not enough of a threat going forward, I don't think he managed any shot of note.

Connolly I'm not his biggest fan but although he had a few hiccups today they were minimal, he did a lot of good work and seemed busier of the CBs.

All about opinion though :ayatollah:

I agree with u with Le Fondre. He worked so hard today, he never stopped running!!
Problem was, when he ad the ball to his feet, he was too knackered to do anything with it!!
As much as I like Fondre....This Guerra is top class!
How we av signed a player of this calibre is beyond me!! I don't think Fondre has a look in after watching this boy play.
Further more, Macheda to come into this team as well.
The new CB to slot in with Hudson(not Connolly) IMO.
Natural width with Pilkington instead of Bergstaller. I believe we finally av a bit of balance about us.
We all know Daelhi ain't a winger but, 2nd half he drifted into that number 10 role, nobody could pick him up.....CLASS!

Agree about Le Fondre, also disagree with the poster above, I think Guerra and Jones could play together. I don't class Guerra as a target man, he is so quick and light on his feet.
Agree about Daehli not being a winger but in a standard 4-4-2 it's the only position he can play.
CB we have gone from not many options to a few, Cala, Turner, Morrison to come in.

It's difficult to accommodate a player like Daehli. We have to forfeit a winger. Like today, he started out wide, once we won midfield, he drifted into that number 10 role.
The beauty of that, if we become over run in midfield, we can swiftly adapt to a 4-4-2.
I think, our biggest threat this year is, not knowing our best team. Yes, it's a long season but, I hope Ole don't adopt a rotational system. :bluescarf:

I think its a misconception that he isn't a winger. Its just that he is not a winger in the classic sense whose job it is to provide width and crosses.
But most teams today don't play with a classic winger they play with inverted wingers that contributes more in build up play and passing patterns. Daehli is one of those hybrid winger/attacking midfielders. He has pretty much played as a winger with license to roam all his life.

Totally agree with u. That's wot I'm saying, on paper we r 4-4-2, and we may start that way. As long as we offer natural width on 1 wing. Daehli has that freedom to drift into that number 10 role, as he did today. Now we av legs in the middle of the park in adeyemi, the balance we av been craving in midfield is shaping!
Yr above comment is spot on!

I don't think you can leave Daelhi out. His link up play with Fabio has been brilliant and not just yesterday. Together when they are both on the left they will terrorise any opposition.

Yeah, i know :laughing6: People see such different things sometimes. i would definitely not rate lefondre that low he ran his balls off for cardiff, great movement and nice technique on the ball.
Daehli also should have a higher rating he was very influential in attack and played some lovely through balls, had an assist and could have more if Kenwyne hadn't missed the ball right in front of goal.
