Compare this squad to the Championship winning squad........

Fri Aug 15, 2014 7:16 pm

We have strengthened massively in every department, on paper this is a very exciting and strong squad that should piss this League.

What are your views, on this team, and the differences in Malky's Championship winners ???

Lets just hope ole can get the right tactics and set up as this squad is quality in all departments.

Well, we shall soon find out whether this squad has the "dog" that marked the Championship winning side.
That was a team with a straightforward tactical outlook - keep it solid and simple. It was also a pretty established team that benefitted from the command and organisation of a good leader who was on top of his own game.

Much better squad, much better quality and more options to choose from.

BUT, I feel this Championship will be one of the hardest if not THE hardest. With so many teams with parachute payments still being put in. Wolves who got promoted look a strong outfit. Not all the teams who got relegated to the Championship will go back up. I feel we have a stronger team but the opposition are much harder

Much better, hopefully at the back too

Malky won this league by eight points with a much inferior squad. OGS's team should win it by a mile. If he doesn't then ...

Much better squad, but in a much tougher league. It's not as simple as people saying "if Malky's team won the league, this lot should coast it".

Unless you get a load of injuries / suspensions having a large squad doesn't really mater. It may even cause problems trying to keep players fit and happy. I'm not sure our core of 15-16 players is any better than the likes of Norwich, Derby, Watford or Wigan. Can we match the team ethic of the likes of Ipswich, Wolves or Reading? What about Fulham or Forest?

You can only laugh at those who think we will piss this league because we've made a load of signings.

I think it will be a totally different side the championship winning side was a no nonsense side good defensive unit ground out 1-0 wins this side looks like it has more flair.

On paper we look stronger. The problem we have at the moment is our fans are to busy slagging Tan off. Let's get behind the team and we will fly. Look at Palace and thier fans as an example , the atmosphere at their ground is special, their players must love it ... :ole: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ole:

That's right what's said on a messageboard will affect the players and Tan now.

If your attitude and negativity rubs off on the players then we are fooked!

Dry your eyes mate - I have my opinion about Ole, you have yours, surely that's fair enough and what the messageboard is about? I'll admit I'm wrong if he makes the team a success this year.

On paper yes it does look a far stronger squad.

All I would say is that to get out of this league , you need a team who are really prepared to put the hard yards in.

Say what you like about Malky , but the team that won the Championship worked their socks off and had a great team ethic about them, granted it wasn't very pleasing on the eye , but it was a successful formula !

If Ole can get this squad to gel and gets the same commitment out of his squad as Malky did , then we'll be knocking on the door come the end of the season.

Good points mate.

I think a strong squad does help in the Championship because there are a lot of games and many Staurday, Tuesday Saturday runs, and it is a long season and a strong squad helps in the last fifteen games.

Both managers built really good squads, and both gave optimism for the seasons.

Malky went for solid reliable players, and paid a big emphasis on the Character of his players, remember his dossier methood? He made sure he knew all about them, and if they were good for the team, and would put in a shift. It seemed to work in the Championship we had a hard working solid reliable defensive team that would not often let you down with a lack of effort. We did have some special players that could win you a game but overall, we we're know for a solid defence, quick to close down the space, and a solid reliable team. This may have been an important factor for Malky, he knew what he wanted before he signed them, and in my opinion the vast majority didn't let him down.

Ole seems to have much more emphasis on attacking players. When you compare we have far more attacking options in midfield and the striking options are amazing. I think we would find it difficult to know the best two as they all look pretty good. He has also added to the defenders that played so well for Malky and helped build the solid base to get us promoted.

Ole personally knows a lot of his new players and inherited a really solid squad, on paper we have a really good squad, and should be optimistic for the start of this season, we have never before had such a good squad, with two teams good enough to challenge for promotion.

I can't wait , bring it on :bluescarf: :ole: :ayatollah:

You are also right about the quality of the Championship. People say it gets weaker every year, but from what I can see it gets stronger every years as the Premier League money keeps coming into the League, there as some massive clubs in the Championship and some really well run clubs with good Managers.

It definitely won't be easy, it never is, but we have a great squad, let's see if they can do it ? :ayatollah:

Lots of teams are up for it and spent for it this year.

I think its a decent team, but I am not convinced Ole knows what hes doing.

what I saw in the prem and so far is attack, score a goal if possible, if goal scored, defend for rest of game.

Pointless defending a 1 goal lead unless you have 5/10 minutes to go. My worry is the defence, but lets hope he has a few tricks up his sleeve

Re: Compare this squad to the Championship winning squad....

Yeah it always seems to be when we do well it's because it's a weak league. It's never a weak league.

I'm really looking forward to the season, more so than last year as I know we should be able to compete towards the right end of the table as opposed to being cannon fodder. I hope we get noone back ASAP and get the right midfield combination so we can keep the ball and dictate games. Then we should have the firepower to cause a few problems.

Re: Compare this squad to the Championship winning squad....

Sat Aug 16, 2014 8:52 am

We can't possibly know this. Some of our players are inexperienced in England. Also some of the signings people hope are amazing but can't possibly know they will be amazing.

We are setting up OGS for a fall. We need to allow time for squad to blend.

Re: Compare this squad to the Championship winning squad....

Sat Aug 16, 2014 10:15 am

We had a great run last time mid season, that team ended the season quite poorly with hardly any wins. We should fly this league with this squad, hopefully this season not next.

Much better fullbacks than Malky's team and prepared to overlap and cross, with Pilkington and No one we will cause massive problems down the wings.

Need to tighten up from corners and start winning the 2nd balls on the edge of the box, but overall a good start :ayatollah: :ole:
