New Crystal Palace manager: Former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay the hot favourite to succeed Tony Pulis

Ex-Bluebirds favourite looks odds on for a return to management in the top flight after an eight-month spell out of the game
Malky Mackay was a popular manager at Cardiff City
Malky Mackay has emerged as the clear favourite to succeed Tony Pulis as manager of Crystal Palace.
The former Cardiff City boss is priced as short as 5-4 on with some bookmakers to take the hot-seat at Selhurst Park after Pulis' shock departure on Thursday.
Mackay has been out of management since leaving Cardiff at the turn of the year following a well publicised fall-out with owner Vincent Tan.
If the Scot, who is understood to be close to Palace chairman Steve Parish, is confirmed in the job, it would mean a swift reurn to Premier League duty and and reunion with Iain Moody, who was head of recruitment at Cardiff but left just before Mackay when the Tan furore began to blow up.
The pair's departure from the Bluebirds eventually ended with them both issuing public apologies to Tan over the issues that led to their sacking.
Mackay was strongly linked with the Norwich post at the tail end of last season after the Canaries dispensed with Chris Hughton, but nothing came of it.
Now, after almost eight months out of the game, it appears he is ready for a new challenge.
Mackay is way out in front of others in the betting with ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon second favourite at 7-1 and former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood and David Moyes, both currently free agents, at 10-1.
Meanwhile the departure 'by mutual consent' of Welshman Tony Pulis from Palace has left the club’s fans, as well as most of the rest of the Premier League, stunned.
The former Stoke boss won the Premier League’s manager of the year award last season after guiding the Eagles to an 11th placed finish when they had looked a god bet for relgation throughout the first half of the season.
Pulis' assistants Gerry Francis and Dave Kemp have been asked by chairman Parish to stay on for the opening game at Arsenal on Saturday.
It's understood Pulis had become frustrated at not having greater control over all football matters at Selhurst Park, especially transfers.
Palace missed out on signing Gylfi Sigurdsson and Steven Caulker earlier this summer, though they did snare Fraizer Campbell from Cardiff.

Malkys CV is lower than dog shite at this time, and not even his old mate Moody could get him the palace job.

If Malky got the job there, are there any players at CCFC he would want to raid?

If he doesn't get the job then we KNOW he did something iffy with us.

In todays market and given they both wouldn;t be in any squad of mine, they'd be worth no more than £1m combined, and a struggle to get that!

Looks like Tony P left over a lack of control and little funds in transfers. Malky loves a shopping list. Can't imagine him just working with whoever he already has in the squad.

With Malky and Moody at the helm you wouldn't rule out such a thing happening.

We do? How?

We already know by his public apology and abandonment of his compensation claim.

But harsh he is in such demand he can just wait for the right job to come along, something like Norwich or Celtic where he has roots from his playing days.

But he didn't get either of those jobs after being one of the bookies favourites for both, therefore that assumption must surely be wrong

With a 50% sell on clause.

Such revisionism about Malky....it really is baffling. He spent money in the end and achieved what was asked (promotion as CHAMPIONS and we would have made a lot stronger go at staying up). Previously at Watford and when he came to us, he worked very well on a budget/having had a squad of a handful of players.
I don't know about any of these allegations but it seems to me Tan paid him a lot of money to get out the club without kicking up a fuss.
Palace were right to get rid of Pulis as he wanted to spend above their means and had little time for blooming young players....something which CPFC take great pride in.

Malky didn't walk away quietly, he was Sacked! Hadn't you heard? He was sacked and was talking about taking Tan to court to claim compensation.
Then a few months later he apologises humbly to Tan and drops his compensation claim.
So if you still think Malky was paid to walk away you're simply deluded.

I can't remember the ins and outs of the case but wasn't it 'settled'. Nobody knows how much was paid out or what the agreement was or did I miss that? The statement may as well have been read out in Malaysian.
Anyway....footballing wise Palace could do worse. I think they would be a good fit and I could see him doing alright there.
He's an excellent young manager. Speaking of the whole Malky/Moody thing I work and live in London and I have a few Palace supporting mates who credit Moody and their January signings as highly as anything Pulis did there.

When will the Malky haters drop it?
The guy took us up and the guy was sacked.
Move on for f**k sake, it's very boring now.

Good news for Burnley QPR and Leicester, will be interesting at the bottom next season aswell ad the top.......

Least I know I can get a definite return now on Palace to get relegated, now they're appointing the Scottish oaf

Good luck Malky
The manager who took us to the premier league. FACT.
(I may have not liked the style of football, the dossier and slow signings, and the corner signing
But the FACT don't lie)

Here it is in plain English then!
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/malky-mackay-issues-humble-apology-3520490 We do know how much was paid out: less than Malky wanted and felt was entitled to.
The agreement was that Malky apologises for any mistakes and gives up on litigation.
Now I like Malky and I think he's a decent Championship manager. But to claim there wasn't any wrongdoing from him in the face of this evidence is just being in denial. Just because you don't like Tan, doesn't mean he's always wrong.

Most likely was less than what Malky claimed for but so what. A bit like trying to sell your house. You put it on the market at a high price knowing that you will get less but something near what you really thing it is worth. Same applies to court litigation. Those who say Malky got nothing....well I wonder if they would put their mortgage on it?The agreement was that Malky apologises for any mistakes and gives up on litigation.
No it was not. Malky apologise for offending anyone and that is what he did.Now I like Malky and I think he's a decent Championship manager. But to claim there wasn't any wrongdoing from him in the face of this evidence is just being in denial. Just because you don't like Tan, doesn't mean he's always wrong.
And exactly what evidence have you of him doing any wrong? Nothing just like the rest who have a bee in the bonnet about Malky.
