' Joe Ralls '

Thu Aug 14, 2014 8:58 am

Did well last night and in my opinion looks to have benefitted from his season long loan at Yeovil last season.

It's debateable but in my opinion he looked a good candidate for man of the match last night after a performance where he was constantly looking for the ball and hardly gave it away when he was in possession. Kim on the other hand, whilst always making himself available for the ball, seemed to lose possession pretty much everytime he had the ball.

Joe is still a yound man but is starting to look the player MM always believed he would be but unfortunately I cannot see OGS selecting him for our matchday squad in any games other than the Capital One Cup. In my opinion Joe needs to move out on another season long loan to a club where he will stand a good chance of playing each week.

OGS does believe in giving youth a chance and I hope that if a loan can't be arranged for Joe that he gets his chance in the first team because, in my opinion, he now needs to be playing on a regular basis and not be sitting in the stands.

Did very well last night. As I said in another thread deserves to be on the bench on Saturday.

I think Ralls proved both yesterday and in pre-season that he deserves a place in the squad. Wouldn´t like to see him being lend out.

There were a number of ok, performances last night, however, I can't get excited by anyone of them as the opposition was extremelly poor. No player, should be included in our promotion chasing team on those performances alone. That was a lower league one team and we hardly blew them away. For the amount of talent at our disposal, I was very disapointed in the number of clear cut chances we created. There are big question marks on Maynard for me, as he just finds it so difficult to find space and make the correct runs. For me Connelly was man of the match, as he marshalled the the back line well, made just one mistake and was willing to get his foot in at every opportunity.

Agree 100 %. Maynard also seemed to be outmuscled by their defenders on multiple occasions. Jones on top would have been a different story. For me, Jones and Le Fondre as first choices (not ruling out Macheda and Guerra, though, but yet to see them in matches that count).

Agreed that Connolly had a decent game, Daehli again looked a different class on the ball, but the player I'd like to see making the first team bench would be Harris.
Whenever he got anywhere near the ball, he frightened the B-Jaysus out of their left back.

Not meaning to single out players on what was generally an average at best performance, but KTC looked particularly poor. Didn't look comfortable at all. The team to me lacked movement (same as friday). Only difference being we did pass it around better, especially back and forth along the back 4, but we lacked that killer threaded pass.

The supporter love in with Coventry was very strange. :bluescarf:

Don't agree with this sorry bud.

Our movement was excellent in the first half. We were playing total football.

KTC looked comfortable on the ball considering he obviously lacks match fitness and he hasn't played for months. Their goal was down to Gunnarson (at RB), but KTC is one of the CCFC whipping boys now so you won't find a positive comment on him on this board for a while.

Harris looked raw to me. But the boy has good assets as you point out. Don't forget their LB was a development player too. Harris won't get that much joy in the Championship.

Yeah I was just gonna mention that their left back was an 18 year old dvp. So it don't think that showed that Harris is ready for the first team. Coventry also fielded a lot of young players from the dvp yesterday in the second half in particular.
I thought Harris looked decent going forward, but defensively he was poor. That kid Barnham bobb actually did a decent job but when harris come on we opened up down that side.

Re: ' Joe Ralls '

Totally agree, Ralls looked quality last night, even if it was against a poor side. He is much more composed on the ball and he can pick out a pass, he works hard abd he isnt afraid to get stuck in. I prefer Ralls in a midfield 3 along with Adeyemi and Dickagcoi, rather than putting Whittingham in there. Ralls is a good set piece taker too, that season at Yeovil certainly made him a much more better and confident player.

Bloooooobirds.

i agree what your saying but think us being exposed in the rb position was down to ole putting an out and out attacking winger on with no rb not the fact harris didnt defend. he should have tucked gunner in as he has before and harris could have played inhis natural position. a niave move i thought by ole but cant complain too much as we won

Re: ' Joe Ralls '

Gunner did eventualy tuck in but only after the goal. he stayed central untill that point and it seemed as though we had three at the back maybe a breakdown in comms

This.

I don't think Gunnar wants to be playing at RB. Ironically he started his career, at Coventry, as an RB. I think he would do well to try and master that position... Or any position. He doesn't have a speciality position at all for me.

As pointed out by someone, we can't judge players too much on this performance as Coventry were so bad. But Ralls might just overtake a couple of bigger names in the pecking order of the squad now...

I know it wasn't his natural position but you gotta remember he was playing against an 18 year old dvp. It didn't help that much with Gunnar we looked a lot weaker defensively end of second half and it was mostly down that side.

A good squad player who is not quite worthy of a starting place at the moment for me.

He is better than Gunnarson in my eyes

Another season on loan wouldn't hurt him.
