Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not ruling out Danny Gabbidon move

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not ruling out signing former Bluebirds and Wales defender Danny Gabbidon.
The 35-year-old is training with Cardiff having been released by Crystal Palace in the summer.

“at the moment it's just about training with us and keeping himself fit”

Solskjaer said the club is just helping out a former player, but refused to dismiss a future deal for Gabbidon.
"He's got to look at us and we've got to look at him," said Solskjaer, "you never know in football.
"But at the moment it's just about training with us and keeping himself fit."

Gabbidon made 219 appearances for Cardiff between 2000 and 2005 before moving to West Ham.
The Wales international, who has 49 caps, has previously played in the Premier League for the Hammers, Queens Park Rangers and Palace.

Solskjaer is trying to buy another centre-back following the departure of Steven Caulker to QPR and with Ben Turner (ankle injury) and Juan Cala (suspended) both sidelined.
Bordeaux's Senegal international Lamine Sane has also been linked with a move to Cardiff.
The 27-year-old has one year left on his current contract in France.

Following Cardiff's 2-1 victory against League One side Coventry City in the Captial One Cup on Wednesday, Solskjaer said he does not think he will be successful in his quest ahead of their next match at home to Huddersfield.
"I want a centre-back in but I don't think it will happen before Saturday," said Solskjaer.

Gabbidon Could Yet Return

Thursday 14th August 2014.

Former Bluebirds captain Danny Gabbidon could still yet return to Cardiff with OGS refusing to rule out his signing.

At the moment Gabbidon is just training with us as we 'help out' a former player after his summer release by Queen Park Rangers. We're in the market for a defender and 35 year old Gabbidon is in the market for a new club so you never know?

It's not looking that likely though is it at the moment.

The signing of another central defender, after Steven Caulker left for Loftus Road with Ben Turner (ankle) and Juan Cala (suspended) out, continues to remain his priority with Bordeaux's Lamine Sane being linked.

Will a defender, the Senegal international or Gabbidon, come in before the Championship meeting with Huddersfield Town this weekend? OGS doesn't think that this will be the case.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer could make a move for Danny Gabbidon as the Welsh international centre-back trains with Cardiff City to maintain fitness.

The Championship side are short on central defenders and Solskjaer has admitted he would like to add strength in that area before the transfer window closes.

Gabbidon, who was released by Crystal Palace in the summer, played more than 200 games for Cardiff during a five-year spell at the club before moving to West Ham for six seasons.

His best days might be behind him but at least if hes training with us ole can have a good look at him. If our strikers cant get past him in training then sign him up. If they run rings around him, send him packing.

I think that was Ole's way of saying we won't be signing him, in a subtle way.

I think so too.

Ole's probably been put in an awkward position here - ex-loyal servant of our club gets released and arrives at our doorstep requesting to train with us (not an uncommon situation in football). It would be silly of Ole not to take a look at Gabbidon during training, but at 35 I don't think such a short term fix is what we require right now.

Ole would be stupid to rule it out. If we can't get anyone in and the transfer window closes the Danny would be a great shout. Fans these days are far to quick to throw things back in your face so best bet is to say as little as possible.
