WE GOT THE RESULT BUT VERY NEARLY DONE OURSELVES IN

Wed Aug 13, 2014 8:54 pm

Respect to the 359 City fans who made the journey to Northampton tonight :bluescarf:

Ole made major changes, as expected, for the Cup clash against Coventry, but he threw a surprise by throwing in development youngster Jazzi Burnham-Bobb.

In the first half I was impressed by the keep ball football City were playing, ok Coventry were poor but Cardiff did enough to go through to the second round. Guido Burgstaller showed some promise with his finish and from that early goal City controlled the majority of the game.

Ole took a gamble tonight with his line up and had we lost the game, he would have no doubt faced plenty of criticism but he made his call and got it right.

The second half was going nowhere until the 70th minute and Coventry started to assert a bit of pressure going forward and finally managed to get their first corner of the game.

With Coventry starting to get a foothold on proceedings, Ole made another brave call; with City being put on the backfoot, our manager took off a midfielder (Burgstaller) and full back (Burnham-Bobb) and threw on two attack minded midfielders, Daehli and Harris.

My initial thought was, that is the difference between Ole and our previous managers Malky and DJ, both previous managers would have taken off forward players and replace them with defensive minded ones.

And within minutes of his changes, Ole's philosophy of 'best form of defence is attack' looked to have paid the perfect dividend.

But we very nearly come unstuck and let's be honest had Coventry had better finishers in their team then there is no way the scoreline would have finished 2-1 to Cardiff.

Ole takes chances and is brave but there will be times when they go against us.

It has been a good start to the season and let's build on it now with two home wins :ayatollah:

Expected a win.
Got the win.
Controlled 70+% of the game.

When I saw the line up, I weren't too convinced AJ but delighted with the play in the first half by the team.

When we got the second goal, I thought that's it well done Ole but disappointed to concede and make it a little closer than it should have been.

We are in the hat for the draw and that's all that matters now :bluescarf:

It was like a reserve game and worse than boring, but at the end of the day Carl, we won against a very very poor Coventry side and we can now progress away to Port Vale keep our fringe players fit and sharp :thumbright: :bluescarf: :ole:

Not great football, but we won :thumbright:

It was f*cking freezing! Need more urgency when going forward, full backs seemed reluctant to go by the midfielders when attacking.

Burnham-Bobb got forward the more the game went on Paul and he was growing in confidence.

Fair play to you coming from Scotland to see the game :ayatollah:

Very true, it's a results business and Ole has got two good results under his belt this season already. :bluescarf:

You say had coventry had better finishers it wouldnt have been 2 1 to cardiff it should have been about 6 2 cardiff if we had put our chances away

He did to be fair, but when he went off that seemed to stop. Was frustrating as the game went in as we had a few fast breaks and the ball kept going back to our centre halves when we had the opportunity to pubish them.

Good to see a few bodies get run outs though.

Can't beat a midweek league cup trip :ayatollah:

Hope we put out a similar side against Port Vale, maybe with one or two stronger players. We should be going for it since we've got a big squad and a lot of strength in depth

I don't read a lot into these games, get fringe players games and try and get a result.

With so many players out injured the team more or less picked itself.

First half we completely dominated them. Took our finger off the pulse in the 2nd half but was good to see the fringe players getting a chance.

Have to say I was disappointed in Kim. He looks all shot of confidence. Such a shame came with so much promise but really doesn't look as good as I once thought he was

Kim seems to have gone backwards, so much potential.

Just a thought but would it be beneficial for him to go out on loan? Get regular games and hopefully get him back to his brilliant best?
