Guerra suffered a hip injury during the 3-3 draw against Vfl Wolfsburg and will miss Wednesday night's Cup clash against Coventry

Spanish striker Javi Guerra has suffered an injury setback and will miss Cardiff City’s Capital One Cup tie against Coventry City away on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Guerra suffered a hip injury during the 3-3 draw against Vfl Wolfsburg , but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been confident he would be fit to make his Bluebirds’ debut against the League One Sky Blues.

However, the Spaniard will now sit things out once again as he waits to make his competitive first-team debut.

“I was hopeful Javi Guerra would be fit to play against Coventry, but it now looks as though that won’t be the case,” said Solskjaer.

“Federico Macheda, who has been able to train, is not quite ready and Kagisho Dikgacoi won’t make it either. He is coming along and hopefully he will make the Huddersfield match, but he won’t be involved at Coventry.

“I will make a few changes, though, and guys like Magnus Eikrem, Joe Ralls, Kim Bo-Kyung, Declan John and Simon Moore will play. I have not decided yet whether Tom Adeyemi will start.”

Peter Whittingham is back in training despite needing treatment after being hit by two strong tackles at Blackburn Rovers, and Solskjaer said: “He took a couple of bangs, but he is a good player and we know he will be targeted by opponents at times because the more time he gets the more he can run the game.

“They were a couple of bad ones (v Blackburn), but he has trained. Peter won’t be playing Wednesday, but he will be in contention for Saturday against Huddersfield and certainly for next Tuesday at home against Wigan.

“Craig Noone and Ben Turner are still a way off and should be back next month.”

Something wrong here. We're one game into the season, and all these blokes are injured. What are they doing in training?

Whitts excepted. They were not two strong tackles, they were deliberate fouls, by the likes of Baptiste.

This could all be a huge blessing in disguise.

It gives us a chance to play players who otherwise would wait ages to get a chance. Personally I'm hoping at least three DVP players get a shot now in this game.

Maybe Velikonja will get a chance?

Moore, KTC, Hudson, Connolly, John, Kim, Ralls, Adayemi, Burgstaller, Healy, Velikonja it may have to be then as the main players from the weekend could do with a rest and Cala will be back for Huddersfield and may have Michael Keane by then aswell

Probably nothing different to any other team.
Guerra, Macheda & Turner all injured in football matches.
Dikacoi is a bit of a mystery but I guess he got injured pre season.

Cala has a three match ban, straight red, so he will miss the Huddersfield match

Don't cup games count towards a ban? That would mean Cala is available
