Danny Gabbidon is Training with City and hoping to impress.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 12:11 pm
Probably just trying to keep fit because he doesnt have a club. Wouldnt read into it too much. I would hope that we're looking at better than Danny.

He did well at Palace last season. If Ole can't find the right CB to come in then I can think of worse cover on a one year deal.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 12:52 pm
I'm hoping we have more ambition than Danny.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 1:32 pm
tbh we could do a lot worse than Gabbidon as cover for a centre back , he is getting on a bit granted , but I think he would be ideal as cover if 1 of our main centre backs got injured

Yes he is training with City and hoping for a 1 year contract, I don't want him back. Anyone?

Not at all, he's conference level IMO, seen milk turn quicker than him. Defensive calamity will happen if we have him, sorry just not good enough now, need to look forward not backwards.

No FFS ! Why are we interested in this end of the market, Roger Johnson mentioned and now Gabbs who next Roger Gibbins, Lee Baddley ?
Spend some money FFS !!!

Depends what kind of wage he is on IMO. He has no need for a massive amount of money now, I'm sure he still lives in Cwmbran as well, so it's not much of a commute. I say yes, he done okay for Palace in the Championship and is an experienced figure head, maybe a pay as you play contract?
Tue Aug 12, 2014 2:18 pm
Im pretty sure Palace fans were on here saying how well he played towards the end of last season.
Ole is obviously looking to bring others in but if he cant find anyone I would rather bring in someone like Danny on a one year deal as back up than waste a few million and have someone not good enough on a 3 + year deal.

Gabbidon had a decent season last year at palace, and that's playing premiership football,we ve dropped down this year so I think he'd be decent, even only used as back up he's bring valued experience to the back four, some people would moan if we signed messi

Gabbidon was good (was being the operative word) but was alway prone to a big 'gaff'. Why should we pay a 'has been' any sort of wage when we can challenge any championship club financially for the best players. I'm hoping this 'Lull' in supposed transfer activity is due to the super cup hogging the lime light, but honestly starting to get a bit concernened of not being linked with any who has no link with Manure, is from Norway, a hasbeen or neverwillbe !

Agreed. We haven't really spent much and I'd like that to continue. We're doing some shrewd business

What CB isn't? Turner is arguably our best CB and has made a few blunders. Also, we are trying to trim the wage bill, in our Championship winning season we had a wage bill of 30m come the end of the year, so we're trying to bring in players on a lower wage. Just because we're linked with players doesn't mean we'll sign them. Burgstaller, Guerra and Adeyemi don't come under your categories.

I agree with this. Gabbidon s still got plenty to offer IMO

The whole point of signing a new centre back would be to make an obvious improvement on what we have. We have four CBs who are good at this level even if not ideal to the way Ole wants to play. I think Gabbs is still a good player but no better than what we already have.

Had a decent performance against Holland for Wales and didn't do to bad at Palace. If pay-as-you-play is possible I think we should take it, he can play in the cup games as well

Not now - few yaers ago yes but too injury prone and slow
Tue Aug 12, 2014 2:48 pm
Not who I want us to target but if he accepts lower wages and few appearances then he'd be good for cover imo.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 2:58 pm
No thanks extremely injury prone and not very good either his last pay day can be at another club and not us
Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:06 pm
Give him a 3 month triial
Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:43 pm
Would love him back for a year. Excellent back up & now regularly fit again after his horrific injuries. Didn't do too badly for Palace last year at a higher level.

He isnt slow, he still had that turn of pace last season.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:51 pm
He's experienced, loves the club and still has a lot to give.
He was doing incredibly well for Palace in the Prem for the latter half of last season.
On a free, he'd be a great addition.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 4:39 pm
Did really well in a palace side that dicked us twice. Would be back up.
Our fans are laughable at times.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 4:41 pm
Does he improve our starting 11?
Tue Aug 12, 2014 4:53 pm
I'd absolutely have him back. Most Palace fans I've spoken to were a bit surprised to see him leave - they were hardly gutted, but said he was generally pretty decent last year. And that's in the Premier League!
Apart from Caulker, did any of our CBs look comfortable last year? Turner was probably the best of the lot and he got showed up time and time again.
Gabbidon was decent last year, and therefore on last season's performance he's better than any of our current squad. He's sill got a bit of pace (not loads but more than Turner et al) is is a ball playing centre half.
Sometimes I don't know what are fans are expecting!
A decent signing, and a former legend coming home.
On the right wages - and bearing in mind how late in the summer it is, he probably won't be demanding a big packet - I'd have him back in a heart beat.
Tue Aug 12, 2014 5:05 pm
Ole will be able to see him close up now and if he's better than the rest then great.
Personally if we were going to go for a Welsh CB I'd like us to take a look at former Swan Joe Walsh of Crawley. I think he's destined for a career at this level or maybe higher. A good footballer. Worth considering. I think we should be looking at younger players in teams positioned lower than us anyway...

If ole signs a cb pushing for a starting place and Hudson leaves as rumoured id be happy for gabby to come in for cover defiantly
