Medel - no release clause

Tue Aug 12, 2014 6:13 am

Taken from an interview with ole . So all the 8 mill release fee talk was wrong

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen midfielder Jordon Mutch and defender Steven Caulker move to Queens Park Rangers, while striker Fraizer Campbell has joined Crystal Palace.
Caulker and Campbell are believed to have had clauses in their contracts allowing them to move following Cardiff's relegation.

Solskjaer said this was not the case with Medel and the club could not turn down the money offered by the Italian Serie A side.
"Medel, he didn't have a clause, but the others had a clause so I couldn't stop those," said Solskjaer.
"This is a different matter. When you get to double figures in the millions and we're playing in the Championship it's about being sensible as well.
"We do have a responsibility financially. He's a good player."

Thomas so we had all the bargaining tools and no wonder we were never going to accept nothing less than £10million.

We did get a great deal. I don't know where this rumour of a release clause came from. Fraizer and Caulks were the 2 mentioned at the time by the club, but Medel wasn't mentioned. It's just a case of shifting a player whose stock was raised by the World Cup and on a high wage.

Good job by the club!

Incidentally, I heard that this is an actual profit because the £11m figure assumed Medel would stay at Cardiff and only £8m was up front. As he has gone now, that extra £3m has been saved. Hope I'm right.

I agree it was a fair price, I don't think we could have got any more for him and it's a premier league wage of the bill.

I think we played a blinder to be honest

Not only did we get the price we wanted we also showed a major European Club that we can match them in the transfer market for negotiation - and that will benefit us in future deals.
