Huddersfield Town football fans jailed after brawl with rivals
Monday 11th August 2014
Two football fans have been jailed for a brawl with opposition fans.
The fight was between Huddersfield and Barnsley supporters took place on 1st March in Huddersfield.
Judge Michael Fanning sentenced one man to 16 weeks in prison and gave him an eight-year football banning order.
He sentenced the second man to 10 weeks in jail and a six-year banning order.
The judge both had a history of football violence, and breached a previous banning order that was set in 2010 to stop him being within two miles of the John Smiths Stadium.
Family of the two men cried in court when the sentences were read out.
The judge said:
“It would be wrong for me to approach this as a town centre scuffle – this is the ugly face of football.
“This ridiculous, mindless violence is damaging to football and to Huddersfield as well. Football hooliganism causes anxiety and fear.
“It ruins the face of Birtish football and it will not be tolerated.”
CCTV footage shown to the judge showed both men caught in the act
Both men had already pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause fear, or provoke, unlawful violence.

why is a fight at football looked on differently to a brawl in a pub/club on a saturday night.i understand that it should not be tolorated in football these days but seems a bit harsh with the sentences handed out.
