Nathan Blake: “Cardiff sold Medel to cheaply”
Fallahi

Monday 11th August 2014

The former Cardiff City football player Nathan Blake accused Cardiff’s president Vincent Tan for having sold Medel to cheaply:

“Seeing as he is a business man this surprised me. He should know how to negotiate better don’t you think? Whatever happened between the directors, seeing the world cup Medel played, closing a deal for aroundd ten million pounds seems like a crazy thing to do.”

What do you know about what goes on behind the scenes? You like to think you are a city legend but you are not, you were one of the laziest players to put on a city shirt and jumped ship at the first offer of more money.

Cardiff City 'crazy' to accept £10m Inter Milan fee for Medel - Blake

Nathan Blake believes Cardiff City were "crazy" to accept a fee of £10m from Inter Milan for Gary Medel.

The Chile international's transfer was finalised on Saturday - a year after Cardiff paid Sevilla £11m for the player.
Ex-Cardiff striker Blake was "surprised" owner Vincent Tan did not insist on a £13m-£14m fee for Medel.
"[With] Mr Tan, being the businessman he is, [I'm] surprised that they got less than they paid," said Blake.
"You've got to get better negotiations, haven't you? It's as simple as that."

Cardiff declined to respond to Blake's comments, made on BBC Radio Wales' Call Rob Phillips show, and Inter Milan have not yet officially confirmed Medel's move.

Blake added: "If you negotiate and you're adamant that you're at least looking for £2m more than you paid for him or £3m more... whatever's happened between agent and managers and owners - how they've ended up at £10m after the World Cup, it's crazy."

Or MAYBE we paid too much for him in the first place, and then combined with our relegation, the World Cup only put him back up as high as what we paid in the first place?

Fair play Blake can talk some shit at times

Re: Nathan Blake has a pop at Vincent Tan

Blakey needs to get his facts right. I have it on good authority that we only paid 8 mil for him it would have risen to 11 based on him staying for 3 yrs and appearences, so tan actually made a 2 mil profit. Good business I say

Eff off Blakey lucky to have got 5 million for him after last season.

Re: Nathan Blake has a pop at Vincent Tan

We paid way over the odds for medel in the first place, (spanish press valued him at about 6-7 million euros) i am amazed we have got £10 million for him obviously with him having a very good world cup has boosted his value.

He talks a lot of bull to get his name back in the spotlight. He seems to be BBC Sport's go-to-man for Cardiff opinions

Have to agree with those who say we got a good price for him. Felt we payed way over the odds for him in the first place, not to lose money on him was good buisness in my opinion. Of course we'd have all liked a bit more, but was never gonna happen. Like Blakey but he does talk some shit just like the rest of us at times.

Re: Nathan Blake has a pop at Vincent Tan

Blakey is clueless.

We would never have written a cheque for £11million. I thought it was £8million and then add on that may have risen to £11 million.

I doubt we have sold him for £10 million either. Probably £6~7 million and add ons.

The problem for us was despite his wonderful world cup, nobody from the super rich EPL wanted him........

Well done Tans senior team on this one.

OK he got the publicity on here but Blakey what a stupid statement.

Worth probably £6min first place Tan held on to get £10m great piece of business.

What a crazy statement.

I seem to remember we sold Blakey "too cheaply" in his day, but strangely (not!) I didn't hear him complain to loudly as he signed his shiny new contract and popped his signing-on fee into his personal bank account! LOL  ;)

City did well to get £10m for Medel in the end (buyers market and Medel's STATED wish to go to a specific club) and it allows all parties to move on

Well done Dalman and Tan (assuming he told Mehmet to turn the screw on the deal) IMHO

A great player for us in his day, but didn't hang around long enough to be a "City Legend" IMHO and his media ramblings haven't helped either :(

Bloody hell Blakey! I thought you had your finger on the pulse!!

Medel's selling on fee was as high as possible, given the general consensus of opinion that he was worth about €6-7m. I have always disagreed and that he is of high quality. To sell him for £10m is freak business and shows that Tan et al are no pushovers.

I'm no fan of Tan, but let's give him some credit where it is due. You just look silly here Nathan.

Thanks Gary, good luck and well done CCFC for acting professionally.

Correct

And Phil Dwyer (from my younger days!) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

As previously said he was sold cheaply himself, so eager to have a sniff of the Prem, he couldn't wait the season to help the club. I'll never forget his goals against Man City, Rotherham away etc. But Nath wind your neck in, I like listening to you talk tactics, but lets face it you now more about amusement arcades security than managing a modern day football club.

Not even close to being a legend.

Why the sneering smilies? He's already in the spotlight so doesn't NEED to make comments just to get in the spotlight does he. The bloke is City to the bone and gets paid for his opinions on the club. You may disagree with what he says but he knows more about football than you friend

Scored some decent important goals like pete sayer, Brian Clark and Scott young , none of whom are in the same mould as joe Dwyer granted, but all legends due to the importance of some of their goals .....in my opinion like :thumbright:
