Cardiff City close to loan deal for Manchester United defender Michael Keane, with decision due on Monday

21-year-old Keane, who played twice for United in the League Cup in 2012-13, is known to Bluebirds boss Solskjaer from his time at Old Trafford

Cardiff City have moved a step closer to securing Manchester United central defender Michael Keane.

Louis val Gaal is set to allow Keane out on loan and, after talking to Ryan Giggs, feels Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right manager to help continue his development.

A final decision on where Keane will play this season is to be made on Monday and the Bluebirds are hopeful they can sign the promising centre-half on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old Keane, who played twice for United in the League Cup in 2012-13, is known to Bluebirds boss Solskjaer from his time at Old Trafford.

He has had loan spells at Leicester City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, who are also keen to take him back to Ewood Park after he scored three goals in 13 appearances last season.

Keane was in United’s squad for their pre-season tour to America and impressed van Gaal, who feels he will benefit from regular first team

Solskjaer has confirmed that signing at least one new centre-half, possibly two, is a priority as he prepares his Cardiff team for back-to-back Championship home matches against Huddersfield and Wigan.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman and Solskjaer have worked together on the move to strengthen City’s defence. They have a number of possible targets and Keane is top of their list.

While City work to add new defenders, striker Joe Mason has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan until January.

The 23-year-old striker spent two spells on loan at Bolton last season, scoring six goals in 16 appearances.

He has made the move after signing an extension to his contract, which has been due to run out in 2016.

Got to give Annis a little bit of credit. Looking like he was correct (and he had a lot of stick for it)

Why do we have to give him credit? Did Annis negotiate the deal?

Would be awesome - we need more ball control in defence to be able to do the possession philosophy...

Because Annis stated weeks ago that City had held talks already with Michael Keane.

What do you think of the chances of signing Ravel Morrison, Carl?

Hope Ole can pull it off, hoping recent events will spur RM to calm down.

Don't think the one done is Danny Johnson, because hes been at our club for over 2 weeks, where hes played development games away for City. I thought the deal which is completed is a defender and Danny is a striker.

Guess we'll wait and see :ayatollah:

We are in for Michael Keane and talks are on going but the deal is far from being done, from what I have been told it will not happen as early as tomorrow.

The lad wants to see first what the chances are of breaking into the United team this season, and you cant blame him.

United are looking to bring players in, who they bring in and when will determine if we sign the player or not.

I'm not so sure on the waiting bit mate I think if LVG tells him he's off on loan then he'll be gone.

Monday 11th August 2014

Louis Van Gaal is prepared to allow Will Keane to go to Cardiff City after Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs advised him that Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would help the young defender's development.

That is according to Wales Online, who say that a final decision on the 21-year-old's future will take place on Monday.

Keane - who has had loan spells at Leicester City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers - impressed van Gaal during United's US tour but he wants to see him gain more first-team experience.

Solksjaer confirmed that he is looking to bring in at least one more central defender as Cardiff look to make an instant return to the Barclays Premier League.

In terms of Michael Keane, the key to any deal being completed this week is if Louis Van Gaal can capture his own defensive targets.

Cardiff are hopeful they could get the green light today.

The last central defender we got from Manchester United was Derek Brazil. So don't get too exited.
