Tommy Smith ready to rock the Championship with Brentford after late hit against Charlton
TOMMY SMITH wants to show why he is still hot property in the Championship.

The veteran striker, 34, came off the bench for his new club Brentford to grab an 85th-minute leveller against Charlton.

And after an anxious summer waiting for the phone to ring, Smith was delighted.

He said: "I want to play on as long as I can. I've got a property company, so I keep one eye on that, but football is my focus.

"In the summer I found myself in an unusual position where I was without a club, and you're constantly looking at the phone waiting for it to ring.

"It was a worry because you want to be sorted somewhere and I missed the first few weeks of pre-season, which was tough."

Since when was Tommy Smith on 35k a week I find that hard to believe. He can be good at this level but we have better

Lower Championship is about his level. We have better for sure.

Yes we were right to let him go, his time was up for us but I think he will do well at Brentford, valuable experience for a promoted team and he always makes good use of the ball.
