Thee was an air of surprisement when it became known that the back line was represented by Hudson, Connelly and Brayford. Hudson was on his way to Leeds most thought, Connolly was the forgotten man and Brayford was a Malky waste of money so should not be playing. Now these decisons could have been forced on the manager Ole due to suspensions and injury but I expected a backlash from the fans regardless of the genuine reasons. Instead there was a contentment of lets see what happens which has not happened amongst us for a while.
The game kicked off with a good attempt of the away fans making themselves heard. If you listened hard enough you would have agreed they sounded loud but if you need that sort of convincing then you would have thought different. There was definitley an apprehension there amongst us not help by the traffic getting to the game. The first minute could have quite easily increased the apprehensions when in my opinion we were lucky not to have a penalty awarded against us. The home side attacked the goal in front of us away supporters and a cross from our left was challenged by Hudson whose hand clearly made contact. The incident was clearly in the area but the intentions were low. The intentions won the day with the referree awarding a free kick out of the area. Modern day referring has its advantages.
From the resulting free kick I got the impression of how the game was going to pan out. It was going to take something special to break down our defence and if we could take the lead we were going to come away with something. The free kick was blasted against the wall with the ball rebounding away to the half way line. You got the impression this home side was going to struggle against was could be concidered a weak defence we put out.
From that scare Cardiff started to assert themselves on the game. Kenwynne Jones started to look the player everyone thought he was. A typical big centre forward who could win the headers and hold the ball up for support. Sadly his support in Maynard and Le Fondre was not there. Le Fondre was found on the wing which amused everyone while Maynard struggled ina defence forward role. In my mind these were the two characters that were well out of position specially Maynard who with his speed should have been on Jones sides collecting those winning headers.
It come as no surprise that the first chances of the game for Cardiff came from set pieces. Just after 10 minutes Cardiff won a corner our right and an inswinging corner from Whitts was met by Connolly at the far post who in turn headed it back across the area. Jones met the ball but from point blank range headed it into the fingers of the home keeper who managed to steer the ball over the crossbar.
This started a ten minute spell where we look like we were going to control the game. However our open play had no finishing touches to write home about. Expectation rose when we won free kicks within the opponents halfs. It must have been our 3rd award of a free kick on the 18 minute when a cross into the penalty are from Whitts was flicked on by Hudson. The ball was met by Jones on the 6 yard line who this time headed home for the opening goal of the campaign. You could touch the relief
amongst the travelling supporters as it was felt that guaranteed us some reward from the game.
As the game restarted it was strongly felt now another goal would give us the 3 points. The home side just did not look like scoring and we were looking very comfortable. We continued to control the game and should have increased our lead. From a move down the left Jones found himself clear on the edge of the box. He tried to place the ball around the keeper but ended up basically doing the perfect back pass. That turned out to be the last real chance Cardiff would creat for the remainder
of the game.
The home side started to take control of the game in midfield. They started to string passes together and enjoyed a large percentage of possession. However they just did not look like breaking the Cardiff defence line down. During this time Cardiff look to want to catch the hosts on the break and could have done but for some early decision making from the referee. An ankle tackle on Whitts was quickly followed by the referees whistle when perhaps it should have been kept from the referees lips as Maynard was free with only the keeper to beat.
Blackburns gained possession resulted in only one forced safe for Marshall. A cross from ex Cardiff favourite Craig Conway was met by an outstretched leg that lucky sent the ball goalward forcing Marshall to stretch. Cardiff got too comfortable and paid for it. Whitts picked the ball up half way inside the Cardiff half and should have distributed it up field or across to the
sidelines. Instread he hung onto possession and was challenged ending up losing the ball. The fell to Blackburns top player who from 25 yards sent a scorer of a shot pass Marshall for their equaliser. It was going ot take something special and that was the moment.
The feeling amongst the supporters was one of been here before. Cardiff saw out the half without much fear but there was disappointment amongst the fans. The second half turned out to be a none plus fair from both sides. Blackburn had about 70 percent of the possession and but restricted to long range shots. As the game went into the last quarter Ole tried to change the way it was going by making a couple of substitutions. This resulted in basically nothing happening. The last few minutes saw Cardiff trying to snatch the game from set plays but these were easily handled by the home defence. The referee ended the game with a very poor second half.
A good point most felt away from home. Any point away from home is good some said but you could feel they were not too sure. Doubts are there still and personally I think they will be for the next few games. Lerts hope assurances will be gained over the next month else things could be the same same.

Best summary so far. The atmosphere was certainly one of apprehension and Ian's right that the awful journey there and just arriving minutes before KO didn't help. A point's a point though and my main positive from the game was how comfortable we looked for much of the first half - if this side clicks as a unit then it could be a very enjoyable season indeed.
