Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aiming to avoid any questions about his future as Cardiff City manager by leading the club back into the Premier League.

The former Manchester United striker took charge at Cardiff midway through last season, but was unable to prevent the club from suffering an immediate return to the Championship.

He has been backed by owner Vincent Tan to oversee Cardiff’s push for promotion, which begins away to Blackburn Rovers on Friday night.

Solskjaer is optimistic that Cardiff are in a good position to challenge at the top end of the table, but he is expecting stiff competition for a place in the top flight.

“The aim and the goal is promotion,” said Solskjaer. “I can’t do anything but manage the club and do my best.

“Vincent owns it and I will have to make sure he does not have a question to ask at the end of the season.

“He is a passionate man, we have had loads of conversations about the club and we have a good relationship.

“I think we are a good bet to go up, at least I hope we are. But this league is tough and there are five or six teams who are candidates to go up. That is how it is.

“Blackburn are one of them, there is Fulham, Norwich and a few others, and we play quite a few of them in the first few weeks.”
