Is our academy failing when our kids become scholars ?

speaking with my son the other day and he mentioned that when he was with e academy at age 14 Cardiff beat Southampton 5-0 away at a match I watch It as it was always good to watch that game because my sons best mate played for Southampton at the time From tne Southampton team that day his friends has told me 6 players have now played a regular part in tne premiership sides 5 for Southampton and 1 for the Gunners
From the city team only Declan John has come through the ranks to play regular for Cardiff The team at the time did not have O'Sullivan or Wharton playing either. Cardiff that day out played a team that were unbeaten for two years easily It could have been just a one off but I remember the Southampton coach praising the city boys saying it was the best performance he had seen from an academy side in his life

Why from such a talented group of players has only one made the grade so far It could be for many reason, but are we at Cardiff just not brave enough to give youth a chance or ar they simply not improving when they get to being scholars ?
