Medical passed and signed

World News

6th August 2014

Gary Medel aged 27, underwent a medical in Milan on Tuesday and, upon arrival in the country, expressed hope he would prove a solid replacement for Esteban Cambiasso, who left Inter earlier this summer after a decade at the club.

"I'm delighted to have finally arrived at Inter," Medel said, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I'm ready to fill the boots of Esteban Cambiasso in midfield."

Former Chile striker Zamorano, meanwhile, has compared Medel to his former Inter teammates Ince and Simeone.

"He's a complete midfielder, arriving in Italy in his prime," he told La Gazzetta. "He's an idol in Chile, already on a level with [Alexis] Sanchez or [Arturo] Vidal.

"I have the Inter fans in my heart, and they will take Medel to their hearts. They are going to fall in love with him. It might happen that he plays some good and some bad games, but he never leaves the field without having given everything, without being short on breath or covered in sweat.

"Gary has something of Paul Ince about him, for the way he can be a leader on the field, while he reminds me of Simeone for the way he can lift his teammates.

"It might happen that he plays some good and some bad games....."

That's about accurate.

Never a leader for us unfortunately.

When he arrived last season, it was with the hype of a Vinnie Jones type player. He never quite lived up to that reputation here, & I guess he had excellent World cup performances to thank for the price we got,,,but all the same, adios Gary.

Gattuso: “Medel can become very important for Inter Milan"
Siavoush Fallahi Wednesday August 6th, 2014

The former A.C. Milan player Gennaro Gattuso talked to La Tercera about Inter signing Gary Medel:

“Gary has a character that can adapt very well to Italian football. He is a midfielder than can become very important for Inter and he is very intelligent. The similarities with me? I hope he has half my temper. He has proven his value during the last few years but most of all he proved his defensive skills in the last world cup where he faced top players without being confused.”

Yep.

Interesting to read the Gattuso quote. Very similar players though I'd say Gary is not proven himself yet to be quite as good. Yet.

Same level as Vidal and Sanchez?? Only thing he has in common is being born in the same country.

Inter Legend Hails “Perfect” Signing Medel
Forza Italian

Thursday 7th August 2014

Cardiff CityGary MedelInterIvan Zamorano
Former Inter and Real Madrid Striker Ivan Zamorano has hailed new Nerazurri signing Gary Medel as the perfect signing for the club.

The Chilean midfielder is set to complete an initial loan move with the option to buy at €8 million after Cardiff and the Italian club reached an agreement, a move that Zamorano believes will benefit the Nerazzurri.

“He knows how to manage his great qualities. He plays very well with his feet and is a leader on the field,” Zamorano told Radio ADN.

“What he needs is Inter. I think the club has done very well. I‘m happy that another Chilean can wear this shirt.

“I trust and believe that everything will be fine, he’s a real fighter. Inter will gain much from Gary and Gary much from Inter.”

The move has been agreed by both clubs and details such as terms and a medical are all that stands in the way of this transfer.

Medel enjoyed a fine maiden campaign in the Premier League with Cardiff City making 34 appearances, followed by a very impressive showing in the World Cup for Chile,
