Cardiff have only two available centre-backs with Juan Cala suspended and Ben Turner injured, so Matt Connolly looks set to partner Mark Hudson.
Tom Adeyemi joined in time to be eligible :thumbright: , but Craig Noone (groin) is out through injury.

Cardiff head to Lancashire with just two available centre-backs as the promotion favourites look to start life back in the Championship with three points.

Spanish defender Juan Cala is suspended for the trip after a red card in their defeat to Sunderland back in April while Ben Turner's ankle injury, sustained during the pre-season win over Yeovil, will keep him out until the international break in September.

With Steven Caulker having left for QPR it means Matt Connolly looks set to partner Mark Hudson at the heart of defence. Hudson, linked with a move to Leeds, looked to be a big doubt for the match with a muscle injury but he tweeted on Wednesday that he is 'training and fit'.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen to bring in another centre-back, will be without Gary Medel, who looks set to clinch a move to Inter Milan, and winger Craig Noone (groin) but Tom Adeyemi, who arrived from Birmingham on Thursday, is set to be involved in the squad.

BLACKBURN

Updated Thursday 7th August 2014

Blackburn have a fully fit squad for the domestic season opener as winger Ben Marshall and striker Rudy Gestede appear to have overcome bugs.
Summer signings Chris Brown and Alex Baptiste are set to make their debuts.

Gary Bowyer hopes to have a full Blackburn squad to choose from when they kick off the new domestic season against Cardiff at Ewood Park on Friday night.

A sickness bug had threatened to derail Bowyer's plans but the likes of winger Ben Marshall and former Bluebirds striker Rudy Gestede appear to have overcome the illness, playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Oldham on Monday.

Summer signing Chris Brown has been hampered by a knee injury over the summer but is expected to declare himself available while versatile defender Alex Baptiste is set to make his debut.

Midfielder Lee Williamson sat out the friendly draw with Stoke last Sunday but returns from the one-match suspension he accrued following his red card against Bury.

Side looks about right except with Macheda not playing yesterday I reckon Maynard should start. As for Blackburn they play stoke today. Let's hope Stoke kick the crap out of them....

Yeah, however Macheda has had a knock and with little to choose between the 5 or 6 we've got then I'd go with the one who's more match sharp. Nice to have a choice..

Gestede is doubtful after coming home from Africa being ill (please don't be what everyone's thinking)
Also in the friendly today i see Rhodes had a knock and treatment on 67 mins and went off on 80. Precaution maybe but possibly good news. They also played a 4-4-1-1 today :ayatollah:
Full time was 1-1 Rhodes for Rovers and Bojan for Stoke who started at full strength. Shows we are in for a tough game

Burgstaller is a left sided midfielder. We are short on the RH side , as No one is unfit. Kim will have to play there unless we sign someone in mean time.

Sorry about double post. I Aldo doubt Dickagoi will play as he missed a lot of pre season. Gunnar and Whiits will play as the 2 holding players. My team, with one or two gaps;

Marshy
Brayford
A. N Other
Connolly
Fabio
A N Other
Whitts
Gunnar
Daehli
Maynard
La Fondre

My heart sinks whenever I see Gunnarsson's name mentioned as starting.

I get very nervous too but Gunnar & Whitts had a cracking game against Wolfsberg in my opinion. It was a close call in who should be man of the match out of those 2.
Gunnar will thrive in the Championship again - This is his level :ayatollah:

well they all seem confident, ripe for the picking :D I can see Daehli tearing them a new one, they are proud that they have Rudy we have a striker that has scored against both Barcelona and Real Madrid, it's laughable.

Carlos Cuellar, Jamie Ashdown no longer training with Blackburn Rovers

By Joe Fish, Reporter

Last Updated: Monday, August 4, 2014 at 23:40 UK
Experienced defender Carlos Cuellar is no longer training with Blackburn Rovers, managed Gary Bowyer has revealed.

The former Sunderland, Aston Villa and Rangers centre-back, a free agent, had been on trial with the Championship club, but has now left to explore other options.

Goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown will not be signing for Rovers either, having been offered a contract elsewhere, but Bowyer has hinted that a defensive arrival could still be imminent, with Jordan Spence, who was released by West Ham United at the end of last season, having joined them for pre-season.

"Jordan Spence is still here, Carlos was just training with us and now he's not training with us, while Jamie Ashdown was subject to an offer from another club and I think he's gone to try and sort that out," Bowyer said in the Lancashire Telegraph.

"We're not blessed with many defenders and it's been a good opportunity for us to have a look at Jordan.

"He's been up all week and we need to see him in another game. Hopefully we can get that sorted and take it from there."

Spence spent seven loan spells away from Upton Park before his contract expired earlier this summer.

Talk of KTC filling in at CB, apparently it's his preferred position.

They've also got Jordan Rhodes who is a bit of a goal machine.
Don't think Javi will play anyway. He looks way off the pace the little I've seen from him.
City to win 2-1 for me though!

Ruben Rochina leaves Blackburn Rovers for Granada

By Joe Fish, Reporter
Filed: Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 00:14 UK

Ruben Rochina has completed his transfer from Blackburn Rovers to La Liga side Granada.

The Spanish attacker had been touted with a return to his homeland this summer, having only featured intermittently since joining Rovers from Barcelona in 2011.

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Granada, who avoided relegation by two points last term.

Rochina scored 11 goals in 54 appearances during his three and a half years at Ewood Park.

Problem is this wont be Ole's 1st 11 as we have a couple of injuries and cala suspended will be interesting to see him get a settled 11 after the 1st few games (once injuries and suspensions over)
