Thats in then. Back to square one = we're now championship

4 of our best players out.
Just a good championship club now

I just love an optimist. Man up FFS.

What is it with your pessimism? Do you do it for reactions or do you just genuinely live in a negative bubble?

Daehli is still a fantastic player. Adam Le Fondre is a TOP Championship striker, we have a player who scored more goals in a relegated side in La Liga than Bale etc, a striker who scored ten in eighteen for a relegation threatened side. A chunk of the team which got us promoted in 12/13. Not to mention our acrobatic goalkeeper.

We were always going to sell some players, get a grip

Re: Thats in then. Back to square one = we're now championsh

Crying over losing 4 players? Way I see it, other teams have gone down in the past and lost far more quality than we have. Truth is, we have a stronger squad than what we got promoted with in 12/13, and also have a better squad now than we did this time last year ahead of our Premiership season.

Nothing to worry about.

Re: Thats in then. Back to square one = we're now championsh

Sat Aug 02, 2014 6:57 pm

Let's see. Who have we lost from the season we went up that would make us, questionably, a better team?

Mutch and Campbell.

They have so far been directly replaced by Dikcagoi, Daehli, Le Fondre and Macheda amongst others.

To me, that suggests a stronger squad than when we were last in the Championship and that's before you factor in Fabio, Guerra, Burgstaller, etc.

We have got a better team now than in the prem last year you nutter, this squad would do better in the premiership than malkys squad

Our best player last season was Marshall actually, the rest are good players but not irreplaceable, the only real loss is Chaulker as he is the only one that hasn't been replaced by a better or an equally good player. Dicgacoi, Daehli, Lefondre and Macheda are direct replacements or in some cases upgrades for Medel, Campell and Mutch.

we will miss Mutch in midfield, he has everything strength, defensive ability, attacking ability some pace, even good on the ball.

To put it lightly it's a huge f*cking blow we've lost the spine of our team apart from Marshall
Yes we still have players but our premiership class has been drained from us

It's a sad week - lets not get carried away we have strikers and we have new players coming in and until they play nobody knows what's going to happen its not a given that they will be priority targets and perform fantasticly

Not sure what you are on about mate, Mutch has a lot of good qualities but defensive ability is not one of them. And for a big guy he doesn't use his physicality much.

We're not in the Premier League so it doesn't matter.

It wasn't much of a Premier League class anyway. We'd have stayed up if it was.

We are stronger in midfield all around with mutch slotting in (in my opinion)
he's not a defensive midfielder but with the likelyhood of maybe whittingham, certainly daelhi, kimbo, Noone all attacking he give us balance. Yes we have wolf and gunarrson but Mutch offers stability and he played key midfield roles in alot of our solid performances

Again looking for faults for the sake of looking for faults.
if you look at the bigger picture we have lost 4 quality 3 was expected and mutch was a final blow

why be a nob and try highlight something for the sake of it when I have a valid point.

He doesn't track back and goes missing a lot I find him lacking in that department. He would be a much better footballer if he worked on the defensive part of his game. I think we will be fine without him. Daehli has much bigger potential in Mutchs preferred position. And whitts is back on track looked excellent today. With Dicgacoi who is a real powerhouse i think midfield looks more complete this season. Would have been nice to keep Mutch too, but he was pretty bad in preseason looked like in his mind he had already moved on. We don't need someone who doesn't want to be here. Good luck to him and bring on the new boys! :bluescarf:

Excellent point? How has he made an excellent point

if we had kept any of the 3 we lost it would of been fantastic for this club in the championship. And then losing Mutch was a big blow. It does matter because we are now weaker = QPR kept hold of some real qaulity last year and it made a difference.
So for them it mattered!

Caulker was our best defender by a country mile he scored more than most of our strikers which is a joke
Medel is a top class player and Campbell at this level is consistent.

It doesn't matter that we went down we could of stayed up if results had gone slightly our way there are clubs around us who stayed up because results run their way. another year it may of been 17th = then it would matter to you = try looking at the bigger picture and the overall possiblity not the result

end of the day it could of been worse it could of been better - both teams create chances over 38 games some teams around you will fair better = we did it when we won the championship

Re: Thats in then. Back to square one = we're now championsh

Sun Aug 03, 2014 8:31 am

Caulker = overrated and very replaceable for similar quality at this level
Medel = Didn't want to be here, forcing him to stay isn't going to help
Mutch = Good player, but he's not immense at playing in a 2. He's better as a number ten and we don't play with a number ten.
Campbell = Cracking player, would have got lots of goals this season, but we (should) have goals this season with Macheda, Le Fondre and Guerra so he shouldn't be that missed.

We kept Marshall Noone and Dæhli so three of our seven best players are there.

Whitts, Gunnar, Hudson, Turner, Conolly, Kim and Noone all have Championship winning experience and there's still 2-3 players to come in a squad that has, more or less, two decent players for every position.

All going well:
Lewis
KTC Hudson Turner John
Kim Gunnar Eikrem Burgstaller
Le Fondre Maynard

Will be our sub team!

All 92 clubs could finish in a different position if other results went their way. Over the course of a season you finish where you deserve to finish, and besides finishing bottom, we conceded a bucket load of goals as well, even with Caulker at the centre of our defence.

It was an excellent point because if our players had been good enough then, over the course of a whole season of 38 games, we would have had more than enough points to stay up. League tables might lie about one or two points but we fell short over a season.

I hope that explained my comment. I would have like to have kept Caulker and Mutch but I'm not too fussed. If we go up again then I'm sure we will go into enough extra debt to buy some more quality.

I'm happy with the depth of our squad. What I am worried about is that historically, many relegated teams who don't have a good start really struggle so the gaffer needs to ensure that we are well up for it and get a few convincing early wins under our belt.

The way i look at it is we have a better team now than our Championship winning team, so stop being so f*cking negative.
