Cardiff City's midfield maestro looks set for a move back to the Premier League as the Bluebirds negotiate with QPR
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=144879Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch could be heading for the exit door just days before the start of the new season after the Bluebirds began negotiations with QPR.
We can reveal Harry Redknapp's £5m bid for the 22-year-old has been turned down, but the Premier League new-boys are now expected to return with an improved offer
The promoted West London outfit are looking to add Mutch, who scored seven Premier League goals last season, to their squad and link him up with former Bluebirds captain Steven Caulker.
Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not want to sell Mutch but, as the former Birmingham City man only has one year left on his contract, would be unlikely to risk him leaving for free next summer.
QPR now appear to be in pole position to land one of Cardiff's best players, but there is also interest from at least one other London-based club.
Mutch joined the Bluebirds from Birmingham two years ago for a fee of around £2m, establishing himself as the linchpin of the Cardiff midfield after a slow start.
He played 37 times last season, scoring seven goals.
As well as linking back up with England defender Caulker, a move to Loftus Road would see Mutch join a squad including Chilean World Cup star Mauricio Isla, who is due to join from Juventus, and striker Loic Remy, whose proposed move to Liverpool fell down last weekend.

Maybe their bid wasn't £5m up front?
Also that article is wrong I'm sure. We signed Jordon with closer to £1m not £2m. His contract was expiring with Brum and they were desperate for cash.
One of Malky's best signings.
Fist pump.

Surprised we rejected it , I would find 5m hard to turn down with a player in last year of contract. To me this says we want him no matter what offer comes in , as he is more useful to us in helping us try and go back up than a few million

I like how the club is playing hard ball in the transfer market.

Then again it doesn`t take much to be one of his best signings. But i agree, a player i would love to see in our shirt this season too.
I saw an article before the summer that Mutch was bought for 2mill + clauses and that his contract had a release clause around 5million. Lets hope all of this is just bullshit.

£5m is good business for a player in last year of contract regardless of age and if we get £6m then even better can get arguably better players for half that few IMO, if he's not willing to sign a new deal which seems the case then definately cash in

not in squad today

I agree with Smarkez, very good business

If there is a bid in for Mutch in excess of £5million and you are hoping he stays, prepare yourself for upset.
It is common sense to take such a fee when a player could sign for another club for free in 5 months time.
Everything else is of secondary importance.

Just to let you all know Mutch is very good friends with Caulker

Fair point

As long as the money is rejuvenated into the playing squad. I'll be happy. We have a great creative outlet in Daehli, although Mutch is brilliant, has a great strike on him, he is a player maybe we can afford to leave. Silly we only signed him on a three year contract though.

Annis, I just found this article that Terry Phillips has just written confirming we have rejected.
Jordon Mutch, a driving force for Cardiff City in midfield, looks set for a move to London.
Queens Park Rangers are leading the chase for Mutch. They have had a £5m bid rejected, but are expected back with a new offer.
It’s likely Cardiff will accept if Rangers make it £6m for a player who has one year left on his Bluebirds contract.
Mutch joined the Bluebirds from Birmingham City two years ago for a fee of more than £1m and was among Malky Mackay’s best signings. He played 37 matches last season, scoring seven goals.
A move to Loftus Road would see Mutch link up with former Cardiff captain Steven Caulker again.
But is it the right move for all parties?
Football Correspondent Terry Phillips assesses the mooted Mutch to QPR move from all angles...
Q: Should Cardiff City sell Mutch?
Yes. A £6m fee for a player in the last year of his contract is a good price.
It’s also true that Mutch, at the age of 22, wants Premier League football and, if the Bluebirds deny him the chance that could have an impact on his form. He could also walk away for nothing in a year’s time if City said no.
City turned down a similar offer for David Marshall because he made it clear he was happy to stay, but Mutch is a young man with a burning desire to play at the top level. He had a taste with Birmingham City, went up with Cardiff and is keen to stay there.
Club chairman Mehmet Dalman stood his ground on Mutch, rejecting Sunderland’s £1.5m offer just over two months ago. He has said no to QPR’s initial bid, but looks likely to shake hands on a deal if, as expected, Harry Redknapp comes back.
Mutch was left out of Cardiff’s squad against Wolfsburg and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained that was because he wanted a look at other midfield options. It was also clear that with a QPR deal in the pipeline Mutch was not going to be risked in a pre-season match.
If, as seems certain, he goes, I would expect City to invest in a midfield replacement for Mutch quickly.
Q: How successful has Mutch been for the Bluebirds?
He was comfortably one of the best outfield players at Premier League level. His energy, drive and commitment, those powerful, driving runs, were good to watch.
And I’ll remember his late winner at Fulham, a stunning left-footed strike into the top corner, for a long time.
Mutch was City’s top Premier League scorer with seven goals, one more than Fraizer Campbell, and would be a shining light in the Championship.
But he has tasted life at the top level and is a young lad who wants more. Who can blame him?
Jordon Mutch scored a stunning late goal last season versus Fulham
Q: Is he genuine Premier League material?
Mutch was a teenager when he made his Premier League debut for Birmingham City against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
He lined up against Giggs, Rooney and Co, playing 90 minutes as the Blues were thumped 5-0. But he went back with Cardiff last season and showed how much progress he has made.
Mutch, still only 22, looked at ease in the top flight and loved the experience even more than his first taste. There is still far more to come from Mutch. He developed under Malky Mackay and Solskjaer has helped him immensely since taking over in January.
Harry Redknapp needs a powerful, goalscoring midfield player in his squad, and knows Mutch can do that job and still improve,
Q: Is Mutch worth £6m?
QPR valued him at less than that, but Cardiff said no and, if they want him enough, Rangers will have to up their offer. Mutch is a former England under-21 midfield player with major potential and the time to progress.
At the price Cardiff will feel they have done the best deal possible - and QPR know they close to signing a player who can make an impact for them in the new season.
For me, it seems a fair price for both parties.
Sunderland offered £1.5m two months ago and that was clearly not enough, while Swansea were also linked with a move for Mutch at one stage.
It’s also true Rangers are not the only Premier League club to have asked about the player - and that will hopefully ensure Redknapp will not waste time coming back in.
Q: What do Cardiff City need if Mutch goes to QPR?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and chairman Mehmet Dalman are ready to move quickly. If Mutch moves to QPR I expect the two men to move swiftly - they already have a midfield player with Premier League experience in their sights.
City have brought in good money this summer and the total will be £25m if, as expected, Gary Medel completes his move to Inter Milan and Mutch does make the move to London.
The Bluebirds would certainly have the cash to ensure they add the right final touches to Solskjaer’s squad.
