The Mutch agenda

Sat Aug 02, 2014 9:25 am

Over the years there has been a lot of fans complaining about our excessive debt and the way we allow players to run down their contracts and walk away for peanuts. Now that Mutch could be on his way to QPR for £5m with only one year of his contract to run those same fans are complaining and saying we should build a midfield around him. If we do not achieve promotion, which is quite possible will those same fans complain about him walking away for nothing. Don't say we should have tied him up with a longer deal as I would feel pretty certain we have already tried but he has refused due to the lure of top flight football. What do you think?

I think your'e right.Players come and go.I'm pretty sure if he was that important to Ole's plans he could make him an offer that he couldn't refuse.

I can see both sides. Previously we didn't need players to get back into the Premiership. That's the case here. If we lose Mutch it will have an adverse effect on us going straight back up which will be worth a lot more than £5 million. However I don't see the point in keeping an unhappy player. I think Mutch is one of those players that will be ineffective unless 100 % committed.

I don't want him to go, but if he does it could strengthen us if we replace him with the right man. I see him as an attacking player only, he doesn't work back enough to be box to box and doesn't use his size effectively enough. In terms of attacking midfielders we've got Daehli and Whittingham who can do that job. I also think we are still short of a leader. Ole should use his 5m to go out and get a box to box, vocal leader and winner. I'll get murdered for this but someone like Nolan would be just the answer

I'd be happy for him to go and a decent winger brought in.

He is obviously a very good player but this is spot on. If he goes it could be an opportunity to bring in a proper box to box midfielder. There isnt any one like that on carsiffs books.
Ole was linked to the guy at Birmingham that replaced mutch at some point. That guy is better than mutch according to their fans. He is a more of a box to box player and was named vice captain and he is only 21-22. Someone like that might complete our team better. With the exception of dikgacoi the central midfielders don't track back much.

I'd imagine Mutch has certainly been offered a new improved contract but up to now looks like he hasn't signed it.

It's looking more and more likely that he will go IMO

Has he been offered a contract? And if so why hasn't he signed it?
If he hasn't been offered one then why not considering Ole rates him?

I hope I'm wrong as I do rate him, but I think he must have been vocal about wanting to go (for premiership football)
If I am wrong then the club and he needs to get a contract sorted ASAP

Even though I rate him if a player wants to go then as long as the deal is right for the club then let him go and move on quickly.
