A suggestion for the Malaysians

Sun May 23, 2010 3:33 pm

I'm sure these boys need no help in running a successful business but on the basis that now we remain in the Championship it seems as if cost cutting on a large scale is inevitable and that most of our top earners will need to come off the wage bill (except Hudson unfortunately!).

When looking at replacements we should now be looking to pay fairly basic wages but with large win and promotion bonuses built in.

Still can't help the feeling that too many of our players have been given lucrative contracts irrespective of performance and that in some way has contributed to a situation like yesterday where as many people have commented it seemed as if Blackpool wanted it more than we did.

If we accept that the modern footballer is basically a well paid mercenary ( much as we'd like to think that they "love" the club in the same way we do), perhaps the way to instill a mentality that fights for every ball, every game, every goal is to promise increased financial rewards for success, and only for success.

I don't know if the rumoured bonus of £5 million for the Blackpool players had any effect on their motivation but anyone could see they were clearly "up for it" in a way that our team plainly wasn't.

Perhaps that was more down to their managers superior motivational skills.

How about extending that to he manager because the one we have is crap at motivating the players.
