I think when you think that he could well be the difference between promotion and staying down, I think paying £5m for a player of his quality is not a bad price at all. Wasn't there talk that he'd been made club captain at Southampton though pretty much ruling out a transfer?

agree 100% could be the difference between promotion or missing out, 5million in this day and age with the transfers flying around is not a massive amount.

i also thought he was offered new contract and offered to be captain this why i cant see it happening.

Personally I would like to see Fonte's experience alongside Keane's potential

Way too much money to pay for a defender in the last year of his contract. I would rather see how our current squad manage the first few games and work the loan system if needed.

£5m is too much for a 30 year old CB in the last year of his contract for a team in our position. The rumours are his wages would be £35,000 a week which is also insane for a Championship club to commit three years to. Also until Southampton buy a few defenders his value will be at a premium to them so we should bid again until their situation changes. CCFC are handling this well at the moment by delaying on another bid. We should not go over £4m and even that this a **** load.

Thought lots of people wanted Tan as far away from the club as possible. Presume this is only after he has spent the odd few million here and there, and once he has bought all the quality players the supporters demand. He can then disappear back to Malaysia, but perhaps he will be allowed back the next time the club are close to going into liquidation. Should also point out that when we buy a player for £5m, and sell him for £7m, the club don't net a profit of £2m. Don't forget the huge wages most players earn during their short stay with us.

Think 4-5 mill. for Fonte is worth it if he gives us three years with experience and solidity in our defence.
Cala is still young both by age and by experience in British football - he needs a wise man next to him.
If we put Cala and Keane in our central defence - they might not handle the pressure over time in this league.
Fonte could also be Captain, and Keane is as short as Medel..... whoops...

I think Inter's latest offer is £10 million payable as follows:-

50p upfront with the balance being paid at £12 per year.

He may be good, but we have good defenders anyway, and the cost of his fee plus wages is too much, when we are in debt.
Just walk away and find cheaper/better value.
Hudson, Turner and Connolly are experienced defenders in the Championship and will do a job for us.
It is the fullbacks that worry me. Sort that and we will be ok.

We spent £38m last year and got £3m back for Cornelias, £1m Campbell, £8m Caulker, £9m Medel = £17m loss before we start paying for this years transfers

£17m plus the £10m we spent the year before isn't a bad price for a year in the premier league. Plenty of other clubs would be worse off but please don't call spending £5m on Fonte a profit.

If we play 3 at the back I think Fonte & Cala could play conventional CBs and Hudson/Turner as a sweeper. That wouldn't be too bad
