Are we stronger this season or not

Thu Jul 31, 2014 5:07 pm

When we look at the players that we have signed and the one's that have left, do you think our squad is stronger or weaker

Fraizer Campbell, Caulker and Medel going so definitely weaker.

Your're playing in a weaker league though so its relative. You'll get top 6 with the current squad if you keep Mutch and Marshall.

We were a weaker squad 2 seasons ago when Malky got us up as Champions by 8 pts. Not convinced OGS has the tactical nous to get us up or grind out messy 1-0 wins that are so important.

StT.

Malky had you playing with a solid defence that could grind out horribly difficult results but they added up and you won promotion. Your team under Ole couldn't grind coffee so you're going to have to outscore people. That sounds difficult but some of the championship defences are dogshit.

Medel and Chaulker is a loss. Not bothered about campell. We got better attacking talent in the squad this season. He wouldnt necessarily be a starter.

he's a good goalscorer but you've strengthened in that area. Whether they are any better remains to be seen.

Relegated teams rarely push on to restorm the championship but you should be decent enough to hold up for top 6ish position, unless Ole really is that bad.

Campell isn't really though.
He is not gonna win you matches with his goal scoring or individual brilliance. We got more attacking skill In the team now but as you said the question remains if they can grind. Campell would run himself into the ground but he is not a natural goal scorer. Him leaving doesn't worry me. Lack of new cb and a defensive or energetic box to box midfielder does.

I would say all in all, we won't be much worse at all, better up front and with attacking options, ever so slightly worse at the back, but with the best squad in the league, compared to one of the weakest in the Premier League.

It will depend on our start and how quickly we gets some wins and build some confidence as to how we finish.

I think we will finish top two with Derby, but we need a good start...

Me too. OGS will be caught out by the more experienced managers and tactics in the Championship.
Hope I am wrong but it is how I feel.

In fairness though Jon the league was weak that year.

The year you went up the championship was weaker than it had been in previous years. It's almost as if it was your turn to come up lol.

I'd say next years championship is stronger than what it was when you came up but you're still gonna finish top 6.

Back to the topic of discussion, is your team weaker this year? I'd say yes because of caulker and medel going but the championship is a weaker division so it's relative.

Think maybe we're ignoring some improvements here?

Fabio, Mats, all our new strikers. Dikgacoi is made for a Chamionship dog fight. Noone has improved massively. I have a good feeling about Eikrem too.

My concern as stated above is with Ole. Is he too nice? Malky was a rottwieller on the touchline and you could see that impact on our shape without the ball and our pressing work rate which was our greatest strength in our promotion year - not that the 'Milky-brigade' understand this.

It's Ole who needs to step up to the plate now. He is very different to Malky but he needs to excel in his own way...

Cannot really gauge a difference on our squad due to the difference of league opponents we will be facing.

If this was a squad to be attempting to survive in prem, I wouldn't be to confident.

Scraped through lol. Bitter much?

That year forest were the best team I've seen miss out on promotion and the year later the 6th place finishers finished first.

You're one of a small handful who won't admit the championship was poorer than normal when you went up. I don't think you had anyone who scored over 10 goals and you still went up as champions.

That's rubbish like the Premiership, it gets slightly better year on year.....

Who says the prem gets better every year? It changes from season to season.

Last season I'd say the division was better from 7th up but the bottom 12 had been stronger in previous seasons.

I don't think so, I agree the top teams are pulling away and getting miles better each year, but I believe football evolves and improves slightly year on year. The Championship has way better Managers and players than it did ten years ago, and so does the premier league IMO....
