3-4-1-2 Wing backs Van Ghal style for us

Thu Jul 31, 2014 2:49 pm

I think this could work well for us and think we have the players for this system to do well and it would make us more solid defensively I believe what you think?

Here's my team..

Marshall

New CB/Hudson Cala Turner

Fabio Dikgachoi Mutch John

Daehli

Guerra Macheda

No noone or whittingham? Can't see it myself, a 4-5-1 is more likely.

I dont think you could play Hudson and Turner in that formation.Anyway its hard to swich to that formation, and even harder to keep switching back and forth.

That's the only trouble with that formation nooney doesn't fit in but he should get in the team because he is quality, I wouldn't start whittingham in that formation or any formation really, never been a fan way over rated because he's a set piece specialist or was a set piece specialist because he ain't delivered in free kicks and corners for 2 seasons now and is slow as f**k and no go in him on the pitch either, hope I'm wrong but I think his best days are behind him

Fabio, Declan and mats would thrive in this formation.

I wrote down that team last night although I named Fonte as the new CB (ever the optimist) alongside Cala and Turner. I think Whitts could play where you have Mutch and he would give us more from set piece, but I have no problem with Mutch. No need for wingers with Fabio (or Brayford) and John providing the width. That formation could well solve any defensive problems while still giving us plenty of fire power. And if it's not working we just take one of the CBs off and chuck Noone on and revert to a 4-4-2. :bluescarf:

That back 3 would get torn to shreds. Only Cala has a bit of pace. Could have turner or Hudson in the Vlaar sweeper role but would need quicker players IMO

On the OP - I've mentioned this one before in relation to implementing Gary Medel if he stayed, which he won't of course.

Ole surely has intentions to play two up top this year because our squad's strength is in the striking department. The only problem with the Van Gaal system is that it also plays to our squads weaknesses by utilising three CBs.

You get the feeling the 3-4-1-2 is going to be the new fad, as Barca's system was in recent times. I think it serves well to be adaptable and be a team which can play multiple systems. Particularly a system like this which Championship sides who won't be used to combating it.

The only thing is we're almost out of friendlies and that would have been the time to try these things out. Unless I'm wrong, did Ole actually set up with this in pre-season? Maybe he did and I wasn't paying attention.
