Celts sign Cardiff hitman as Watt departs
CELTIC boss Ronny Deila last night snapped up striker Jo Inge Berget on loan from Cardiff City.
After selling Tony Watt to Belgian side Standard Liege for £1.2 million, the Hoops boss landed the Norway hitman as his replacement.
Berget previously worked with Deila at Stromsgodset back in 2010, and will jet out with the Hoops today ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League third round qualifier against Legia Warsaw in Poland.
Berget has signed on loan until January, but Celtic have the option to make the deal permanent.
The former Udinese man only joined Cardiff in January when he followed boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Wales from Norwegian side Molde.
But the move backfired with relegation and Berget can’t wait to kickstart his career.
He said: “I know what a magnificent club Celtic is and what the club means to the supporters. It is a real privilege to be here.
“I also know the manager very well and I am delighted to be teaming up with him again and, of course, the great squad of players at the club.”
Deila is delighted to add the 23-year-old to his pool of players, which needs an injection of fresh blood. The Celtic manager said: “I’m really pleased that we have been able to add Jo to our squad.
