Has Marshall been ruled out for Summer switch ?

Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:46 pm

Cardiff City 'keeper Marshall had been linked with a move back to the Premier League this summer.

Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall could have ruled himself out of a potential return to the Premier League, after he picked up an injury in a Bluebirds pre-season game.

The Scot suffered a suspected dislocated finger in Cardiff’s 4-1 friendly win over Yeovil Town on Sunday, and could now miss the start of the season.

The Welsh side open their Championship campaign against Blackburn a week on Friday, and are set to start the season without one of their key men.

But Marshall’s injury could have a silver lining for all Cardiff supporters, as the injury will now surely deflect any transfer interest from Premier League clubs.

Marshall has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur this summer following his immense season between the posts in the top-flight. The 29-year-old made an impressive 153 saves for City as he stormed to their Player of the Year award, but could not stop an immediate return to the Championship.

Marshall was one of four expected to leave the Welsh capital this summer, with Steven Caulker and Fraizer Campbell already having departed for Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace. Gary Medel, like Marshall, remains a Cardiff player, although interest from Inter Milan and Galatasaray has been widely reported.

But as we have seen with the Liverpool/Loic Remy situation, clubs do not easily part with their cash if injuries feature. This could now be the case with Marshall, and although his knock is not one that should rule him out for an extensive period, it should, for now, add a few doubts for any potential buyers.

I think he should be one of the favourites to be captain as he is always starting and a loyal player.

Have to agree , he`ll be ever present bar injuries , speaks the language and is a leader .

only thing is maybe if Medel stays then to keep him may give him captaincy :ayatollah:
