Mehmet Dalman - Pay up or clear off Inter Milan!

Sat Jul 26, 2014 1:47 pm

Frustrated Bluebirds chairman Mehmet Dalman has broken his silence over the proposed deal as Milan continue to try and land the World Cup star on the cheap.

Cardiff City have sent a stark message to Inter Milan over their pursuit of Gary Medel, telling the Italian giants to “pay up or clear off!”

Inter have so far refused to come anywhere near meeting Cardiff’s £10m valuation, with some reports in Italy suggesting they only want to pay £1m up front as part of a potential £7m deal.

Turkish side Galatasaray and an unnamed German club are understood to be prepared to meet the asking price, although, again, there is a reluctance to pay the bulk of the fee up front.

A defiant Dalman said: “We are not going to take a loss on a player who was a World Cup star in Brazil.

“We have made it clear what our price is and that won’t change.”

It is clear that despite Inter’s confidence about landing the Chile midfielder, they remain a long way from reaching agreement on a transfer.

City will not accept a loss on a player they signed for around £11m from Sevilla a year ago, and won’t be bullied into accepting a lower fee.

“We will do the right thing for Cardiff City and the player,” said Dalman.

“Our position has not changed.

“There are clubs interested in him, but we have not reached agreement with anybody so far.

“We will not take a loss on a player who did so well for Chile in Brazil.”

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman
Milan had initially tried to sign Medel on loan with a view to a permanent signing, but Cardiff would much prefer to sell Medel this summer than let him leave on a temporary basis.

Inter believe Medel’s value has plummeted due to Cardiff’s relegation, with director of football Piero Ausilio publicly claiming they were close to a deal earlier this week.

“I can reveal that we are negotiating to sign the player, the negotiations are at a very advanced stage,” Ausilio said.

“It is a player who we like a lot, even if nothing has been completed yet.”

Medel is currently at home in Chile, where he has been having treatment on a thigh injury sustained during the World Cup, but is due back in Cardiff next week.

He is understood to be keen on a move to Serie A despite Cardiff’s determination to only do a deal on their terms.

Medel enjoyed a promising start to last season at Cardiff City Stadium before his form faded badly in the final months of the failed survival bid.

Its about time we come out and did this Inter are doing my nut in with this deal with pathetic offers and going into the media on a daily basis. And no it isn't the same as the fonte deal as fonte is 30 years old and in the last year of his contract and we started with a bid of more than half fonte's value wheras milan start with loan offers then a £4m offer with £1m up front then say we cant ask for more as we are in the championship well McCormack has never played at the top level and went for £11m apparently Jordan Rodes has an £10m price tag aswell just because we are in the championship dont mean we cant take what our players are worth Inters negotiation team are abysmal

Good World Cup doesn't make a diff any more. The World Cup isn't the top level of football any more.

It doesn't matter if Fonte has a year left or not. Southampton have, seemingly, been pretty transparent that they have a specific valuation in mind and Cardiff aren't meeting it. If anything it would seem with FFP it's more imperative we sell Medel than Southampton lose Fonte.

Fonte only cost soton just over a mill. He's obviously worth more than that which is why there looking for more. As for medel we knows he's worth 8-10mill inter are offering near 9 but don't want to give us what we want up front.

Yeah, I mean Monaco paid €45million for him a year ago, but you're right no one knew who who was until Brazil.

Then what is the top level of football if it's not the World Cup?

Cardiff City Will Not Change Asking Price For Medel

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman has said that the club will not “take a loss” on Inter target Gary Medel.

The Chilean international has been heavily linked to Inter of late, but the Nerazzurri are reportedly unwilling to match Cardiff’s €12 million asking price for the player.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Dalman said that the club are not going to sell Medel for a cut price, whilst also maintaining that they have yet to reach an agreement with any side.

“We are not going to take a loss on a player who was a World Cup star in Brazil,” he said. “We have made it clear what our price is and that won’t change.

“We will do the right thing for Cardiff City and the player; our position has not changed.

“There are clubs interested in him, but we have not reached an agreement with anybody so far.”

It is also worth mentioning that Medel started all four of Chile’s games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup where they were knocked out by hosts Brazil in the Round of 16.

This is why Inter need a holding player...

Great goal but how much space??

I'm sure Medel will leave and I'm sure Inter can meet the asking price. What the situation needs is for CCFC to accept another bid from another big club that matches our valuation.

Would be great if he stays but I'm not entertaining that possibility this early in the summer window.
