Talk is Cardiff have offered Gary Medel a new deal to stay

Medel will be made captain.

A pay rise when we get promoted back to the premier league.

Lower get out clause next summer if we fail .

Thomas I hope this right but the fact it is coming from you makes me believe it is true.

Going back to the next captain thread then Gary Medel would be a good choice

This would be a good move by us, if only to send a message to Inter Milan that we don't need to sell at any price and won't be bullied by them into accepting their modest offer. Perhaps more strategic than seriously thinking we can entice him to stay?

This is a clever move by our club if true, albeit a long shot.
Let's be fair, it's not as thou he needs to get in the Chile squad for the world cup.

Whilst I would welcome him staying, I don't think he should be made captain. He's hardly the most able man at communicating with the squad.

Fair play Thomas your usually always spot on, if Medel accepts the offer to stay I would actually for the first time start believing we could go back up with a leader like him.

Agreed but not only a message to Inter-milan.Keeping him would send shock waves through the championship even if it was only utill Jan.And on the point of Captain I'll bet he can make himself understood when needed.Would be the best news of the summer to me.

Great news if he stays, but where would he be played in defence or midfield? :ayatollah:

I'd much rather move him on now. His value will diminish even further after a season in the championship in my opinion and that's assuming he does well, I'm unsure.

'Talk is'? Where's the talk from?
If true I would be delighted if he accepts as I'm a big fan. I wouldn't be worried to much if the value went down slightly as the idea is to keep him & go all out for promotion.
Mind you, half the fans on here won't be happy - cos he's shit & only passes the ball sideways - LOL

If this pays off, and I don't think it will. But it's be interesting to see how he would be used. He'd be terrible in a two man CB pairing. So he'd have to remain in midfield.

I would be shocked though if Medel stayed to pay Championship football, but I do believe we have offered him a new deal :thumbright:

Hopefully it's a negotiation tactic to force Inter's hand. Doubt the guy is suited to the Championship and if he showed twice the fight he showed last season that'd still be shite.

Carl, this would be excellent news and ThomasC isn't usually wide of the mark

My only slight 'thought' is whether Cardiff have done this to 'force' the transfer situation to a head?

I hope not, as Medel would be a sensation in The Championship with us! :bluescarf:

I agree, I think the influence of a Captain is often over used, they are a figure head and a respected player that's all, that don't walk around and talk every member of the team through the game, they just shout every now and then, and lead by example by snowing commitment .......

It would be much better to keep him than sell him on the cheap, and if we did need to let him go in January, his value would increase, because we all know clubs will pay through the nose in January and the amount of players are limited.

Hopefully we will be top of the League and pushing to win the Championship again, and Medel would certainly help :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

This would be excellent news. Truly feel his one of the best footballers we have ever had but does this mean their are issues with dikgachoi? I'm sure he won't be too happy dropping a division and playing second fiddle to medel?

Fantastic of he were to stay. A holding MF of him and the guy from a Palace (who's name I can't spell) would be incredible and would really shore up our defence and allow the forwards to bomb on.
However, I suspect this is a bargaining play to get Inter to submit a serious bid!

Either way this is a good move. If it's a negotiation tactic then it's a positive. If he stays it's a positive. It solves our CB problem as we could play 3 CBs with Medel organising between the other 2.

I think he is unlikely to accept this but it would be great if he did :ole:

Weren't medel one of the new signings not to have a release cause in his contract if we were relegated?,if that his the case, why is there a need to offer him a new deal, because he's under a contract already

Clubs do it all the time. Offer a player a new deal with a rise in pay as an incentive for them to stay.
Nothing new in that.
