BBC Commonwealth Games

I thought I'd tune in and have a leisurely look at the coverage of the Opening Ceremony: huge mistake! Firstly, what a crap show anyway; Hazels clearly produced on a budget, maybe with the upcoming referendum the Scots had little money to put into this and wrote it off as a spectacle, Ok these days the Com Games is probably an anachronism and offers little real sporting value, but its cultural importance must surely have some place in marketing the host nation in a positive light,

As far as the BBC commentators it continues an argument I posted regarding the coverage of the World Cup. The commentators are a nightmare! During the World Cup we had to suffer amateurish crap from the likes of Jonathan Pierce, Guy Mowbray, Simon Wilson, Clive Tyldesley, Joe Speight and one or two other fools. I abstain Sam Matterface from these criticisms by the way because I feel he has the ability to extract himself from the rest of the cesspit. Admitedly these are both ITV and BBC substandard personnel but I lay more blame at the BBC....they have always had standards!

But back to the Com Games. Who do the BBC give us for the commentary on the Opening Ceremony? None less than Broadcasting giants such as Hazel Irvine and the guy from Llangennech! He who's already fucked up the Nine o' Clock news and stripped it of its erstwhile dignity, Hazel, (although she is Scottish) who has as much charm as a two week old kipper! Listening to these two twats was not a dissimilar experience to being slowly injected with Strychnine.

One fabulous line from Hugh will always stick in my mind, As the Cayman Island team paraded through the stadium he uttered ..."Hazel, do you know there are more businesses registered in the Caymans than people?" WTF! Isn't the imbecile supposed to address the audience and not his co presenter? And who gives the f**k anyway ....just look it up on Google! Typical of all the mindless guff thats being thrown at us instead of quality information.

And what about the multi coloured disco party in the middle of the field: what was all that about? Did the organisers just entice 2000 dipsticks from a selection of Glasgow pubs to carry on their party at Celtic Park fueled by bucketloads of Heavy and the sponsorship of Dulux? As far as I'm concerned the only successes were the delightful Scottie dogs. Its all enough to put one off sport for good and start watching Songs of Praise!

I stopped watching when the poof from Dr Who emerged from under a giant kilt riding on a camp tartan bus. I felt that Glasgow's Razor Gangs & Skag-Addicts were woefully under-represented. And Rod sounded like he'd been on the Heavy all day.

This was Scotland's big moment. This was a chance for its government to say "look what we can do on our own!". This was their chance to show the world their culture and heritage. They wouldn't even have needed special effects or a big budget to do it. Whoever created that farce should be sacked and never asked to produce a ceremony again.

I was expecting epic Highland music as a background. Dry ice filling the area floor (even the same dry ice your local mobile karaoke produces would have been fine!), a fantastic video montage showing Scottish countryside and landscape in the background, a Ewan McGregor voiceover explaining Scotland's history with readings of Robert Burns, some Celtic dancing, and a good old Sunshine on Leith megamix at the end.

But now, instead we get the entertainment virus that is John Barrowman, some butch-looking comedienne, the worst soundtrack of an opening ceremony to date, and Susan bloody Boyle singing Mull of Kintyre! I feel sorry for the Scottish public for having their country portrayed like that. Don't expect a yes result in the independence referendum now!

You wouldn't be looking into this a bit too deeply would you? Not really worth getting your knickers in a twist over

These events are shite wherever they are held, not unique to Scotland.

Everyone knows we're the best at f*cking something good up so fully expecting the Better Together mob to be smiling come September. We must have something good with the Tories desperate to keep us despite bleating at how much we cost them.

Exactly what I was thinking last night. It would have destroyed any credibility we have left.
