concerned for our defence now...

Sun Jul 20, 2014 8:54 am

Early days I know. But the league two germans could of scored 7
are we just too open to be playing the way we are.
if ole wants to play this attacking he is going to need stronger defensive options in my opinion

I know we will score plenty, but I am worried about how many we will concede.

I don't think people are taking in to consideration we had been training twice a day and had a light training session before both games.
Purely about fitness and it looks like ole is copying fergies philosophy on pre season training

Steve, I agree that these are just fitness games :thumbright: but Ole's style of play is all out attack like the Kevin Keegan days, it's going to be exciting, but a little worried about our defence :ayatollah:

We definitely need to get Jose Fonte.

I think the signing of fonte and the guy we signed from palace becoming available will sort those issues out.

It is difficult to judge until we see Ole play his first choice defenders.

In the first match yesterday Eikram was playing RB (after KTC went home because of family bereavement).

At least the ease with which 1860 Munich got through yesterday - especially in the 2nd half - should mean there is no complacency about the defense - and hopefully much more attention on the training ground.

One more CB to come in - to add to:

RB - Brayford, KTC

CB - Hudson, Cala, Connolly, Turner

LB - Fabio, John.

A couple of those are utility players who can cover other position (KTC and Connolly), and there are a couple of youth players too who have had a taste of first team action.

It is right to worry about the defense but I think the solution is more with shape, set-up, work on the training ground and the attitude of the team, than in adding more to the mix (other than a CB). I think Ole has got the players - the question is what will he do with them?

Lets get Fonte and then we will hopefully see what is available in the January transfer window.

We had a stronger defence in the second game and kept a clean sheet.

Thankfully we won't have kiss at right back in the championship. Doubt Hudson will start, and we are looking to bring in another CB.

The team as split, I wouldn't worry about the defence just yet.

Kiss is not a right back.....in fact what is he?

Marshall
Brayford Fonte Cala Fabio
Dikcagoi Gunnarson

That defensive set up would be more than fine backing up

Dæhli Mutch Burgstaller
Guerra

Or:
Dæhli Burgstaller
Macheda Guerra

In truth our defence has never been that awesome and relied heavily on Marshall who hasn't played yet, but if we can reinforce again that'll only benefit the team.

Defending has been pretty bad. Mind you in most of the matches players that aren't defenders played in defense to give everyone match fitness.
We are also playing without a specialist defensive midfielder in half of the matches.
I would wait and see which new defenders ole signs.
Also need to see dikgaochi play in front of the back four.

I agree about the defense, but think you have to consider that the first cardiff team was up against much stronger opposition. German team is way better than the Albanians.

A central midfielder.

I would think KTC was set to play until he had to return home.

Yeah of course, and I agree with your post above. To be honest it's impossible to judge the defence and midfield when they are split.
Good the strikers are finishing chances though.
