With Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers closing on deals for the pair, there is little Cardiff can do to prevent Premier League deals from going through.

Solskjaer understands that sales are an unfortunate consequence of relegation, and he is readying his side for a return to the second tier.
" Every relegated club see's an exodus of players, there is nothing we can do about it "

He will not be standing in the way of anyone who is offered an opportunity to step back up the ladder and says he is already piecing together plans that do not include experienced striker Campbell and England international defender Caulker.

“I am resigned to losing both players, we are more or less planning for the new season without them,” said Solskjaer.

“The boys have expressed a wish to play Premier League football again next season and we are resigned to losing them.

“I am not going to take an injury risk by playing them in pre-season fixtures.

“It’s up to them now to make a decision. Of course, if they decide to stay with Cardiff that’s a different matter, but both expressed they want to play Premier League football and we can’t give them that this season.

“In theory, I am resigned to losing them and feel that they won’t be involved in the coming season.

“There have been loads of approaches, but they still haven’t made up their minds.”

I hate these so-called "relegation clauses" that have crept into contracts.

It's arrogant players effectively saying that if the team they are playing for are relegated then it can't possibly be their fault and they are too good to spend a season in a lower division helping the team get back into the higher division.

Will Caulker and Campbell have relegation clauses inserted in their contracts with their next clubs?

There's a fair chance that both of them could be relegated again this season so when will they realise that perhaps they are not quite as good as they think they are? Surely the fact that the only Premier League teams looking to actually buy them are teams who are likely to struggle should perhaps give them an indication of their true worth?

As for Gary Medel, I am almost certain that he would have moved on even if we had not been relegated. I think we always knew that he was only using us as a stepping stone to a move to a bigger club, but again he obviously has no wish to help a team who he was an integral part of during a relegation season get back to the Premier League.

Relegation clauses are good things, in theory it should protect clubs from the burden of paying PL wages at Championship level. Allows the buyer and seller an easy negotiation

I am ok with relegation clauses. It guarantees that we only have players who want to play for us.

I would though slightly adjust the relegation clause and add - "This clause automatically terminates at 4pm on the 30th July following relegation".

Players would then have to make a decision quickly. They either leave early and avoid the need for us to pay them for the whole summer or they commit to playing for us in the Championship.
