REDKNAPP CONFIRMS CITY HAVE AGREED FEE

Thurs July 17th

When Harry Redknapp gets going in the transfer market, he really gets going.

Hot on the heels of Rio Ferdinand’s arrival at Loftus Road, Redknapp has told Sky Sports News that QPR have agreed a deal with Cardiff City for their young England centre back Steven Caulker.

The Bluebirds’ captain worked with the Hoops manager at Tottenham Hotspur and was one of Cardiff’s few consistent performers in their relegation season.

At 22, Caulker could learn plenty playing alongside Ferdinand and will be hoping good form in West London could see him add to his one England cap, earned against Sweden in 2012.

Caulker only made 29 appearances in his time at Spurs but shone on loan at Swansea City in the 2011-12 season and continued to impress after joining fellow Welsh club Swansea for a fee of around £8m.

QPR have completed the free transfer of former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand.

The 35-year-old penned a one-year deal, thought to be worth a staggering £3.5m a-year.

Harry Redknapp confirmed live on-air that a fee has been agreed for the sale of Cardiff captain Steven Caulker.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, the 67-year-old let slip that QPR representatives have thrashed out a deal for Caulker.

Harry Redknapp has told talkSPORT that QPR are hopeful of sealing a deal for Cardiff's Steven Caulker after agreeing a fee for the defender.

The Hoops made their first summer signing on Thursday after Rio Ferdinand put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Loftus Road.

And Redknapp is keen on having Caulker, 22, at the back with the former England captain in the Premier League next season.

"We’ve agreed a few with Cardiff. It’s just about getting the deal over the line with Steven now," the QPR boss told the Sports Bar.

"If Steven comes, he really wants to play with Rio. I think that will be a big thing for him to come and play alongside Rio.

"And Rio will encourage other people like Steven Caulker."

Redknapp managed Caulker at Tottenham but the Hoops are not the only club interested in the 22-year-old with Southampton and Liverpool also both linked with moves for the defender.

Why is this a story?

If Caulker has a release clause there is no 'agreement' with Cardiff to negotiate.

QPR came forward weeks ago and said they would meet the buy-out figure.

It has always been about whether other clubs matched it (Palace, Southampton, Liverpool....) and who could reach agreement with Caulker and his agent on salary and other personal terms.

QPR still haven't agreed a move with with Caulker.

Non-story until or unless he says which of any clubs that have met the release fee he wants to join. We're still waiting for that!
