Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation of Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker.

The 22-year-old looks set to depart Wales this summer and has been heavily linked with moves to both Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.

However, despite those two clubs supposedly meeting the centre-back’s £8m release clause, any move has so far failed to materialise, which is said to have alerted Arsene Wenger.

With Thomas Vermaelen still being linked with a move away from the Emirates, the French manager could target the former Tottenham man to provide competition for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Are my right in thinking that the transfer fee has to be paid in full if the release clause is met ?

They wouldn't pay that much for a player twice as good.

Will be glad when this deal's done. Good player as he is, Caulker, and anyone else who isn't 100% committed to the cause, needs to leave ASAP so we can concentrate on the job in hand - Promotion
