Cardiff City star Kevin McNaughton's return fits Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman's bill

Alex Baptiste leaves and in comes Kevin McNaughton
FOR a few hours last Friday night Wanderers fans scratched their heads in bewilderment as last season’s first-choice right-back Alex Baptiste was moved on to Blackburn Rovers.
Despite his foibles, it still looked like a massive gamble to send the experienced defender who had featured 43 times last season out on loan, leaving no tried-and-trusted cover in a key position.
But then it all became clear. One phone call was all it took to set a transfer chain in motion and you could certainly argue Dougie Freedman will be pleased with the result.
The Wanderers boss had asked for first refusal on Kevin McNaughton last December when he sent the reliable Scot back to Cardiff City after a hugely successful loan spell.
He watched on in frustration as the 31-year-old not only regained his first-team spot in South Wales but was also rewarded with a one-year deal by new Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It was hard to begrudge McNaughton his moment in the Premier League sun, having worked so hard to get there, but Wanderers’ form after the turn of the year undoubtedly suffered as a result of shuffling their back four once again.

I think Ole has done the decent thing with Kev in offering him a year extension to his contract even though he knew he wasn't going to be his first choice. Kev has been a good servant to us.

Club couldn't get rid of KTC so Kev had to go. A pitty as the squad has Championship experience but Kev offered a good deal more of that.

Kev would of done a great job for us in the Championship, really disappointed in all this.

Kev is one my favourite city players of all time but I think ole done the decent thing letting him go n play first team football, Brayford imo will be first choice and his distribution is heads and shoulders above kevs, but if we don't see kev in a city shirt again then I hope he gets his testimonial game he deserves all the respect from us fans

is he better than we got? No.
i think brayford, fabio etc would all be starting over kev this season theres no chance he would of been a starter. good decision i reckon.

Then why give Kev a new one year contract? I honestly believe Kev would of helped us go back up, u need battlers, never say die players.

because at the time we didnt have fabio and brayford was out on loan not knowing what he'd be doing with him this season. I wouldnt of mind keeping him but he would not of been starting which then would of made kev probably want a move anyway.

I like Kev but we have far to many right backs, I can't really see him getting in the team.
I think we maybe stuck with KTC most likely on silly wages, I would bet that's where the problem lies.

Good luck Kev, one of my favourite players.

He's also really popular amongst team mates and a joker in the pack. When he's not in the team he takes it and works hard in training to get his place back.

Should be sitting here talking about trying to get their Korean winger Lee Chung-Yong in this deal.
